As the singer and guitarist of Norwegian pop-punk trio Mary Me Young, Anne Sandøy has been described as one of the most promising artists in Norway by Pitchfork. After the concerts she went home and wrote melancoly and pensive pop songs, as a diary for herself. The stack of songs grew taller, and when the other girls in Mary Me Young became busy doing other things, Anne felt time was right.

I never had in mind that I would use these songs for anything. As a consequence they are written without any filter. The songs are stories straight from the heart, reflecting expectations, disappointments and hope, Anne explains.

Mid April 2013 Anne Sandøy released her debut single «Ghosts and Roses» through Brilliance Records, to great response. She performed live on the most important music radioshow in Norway (Lydverket, P3), and she was invited to play at the Pstereo festival 2013 in her hometown Trondheim. The critic that reviewed her show described an artist that truly impressed him. «The stage was taken with relaxed and humble authority, and the songs were performed exceptionally (...). The material Anne Sandøy has worked on is of high quality.

Anne Sandøy creates beautiful vocal harmonies along with a dreamy atmosphere. She is amongst others inspired by the melodius and cathcy pop songs of the 1960's, and the sound the shoegaze bands created through the 1990's. Along with this, she also emphasizes the percussive side of her music, with references to electronic music.

Her first singel «Ghosts and Roses» was recored in Engfelt and Forsgren Studio and produced by Marcus Bror Forsgren (Lionheart Brothers, Jaga Jazzist). The summer of 2014 she recorded more music with Marcus in the same studio. As «Ghosts and Roses» musically reflected her past as part of the punk and rock scene of Norway, she now takes a step in a new direction, into the world of pop, seasoned with electronic elements.

New material from Anne Sandøy will be out early 2015.
