Many years ago, shortly after sunset my fathers brother Stan (aged 20) climbed aboard an aircraft along with 4 other young men. After taking off they effectively vanished into the night sky, with no trace of the aircraft or its crew ever found. This piece is dedicated to Stan and all of the young men, of all nationalities, whose lives have been cut short by war.

The sunset over the hills of west Austin piecing together this song in my head while delivering food, weaving up mountains feeling strangely nostalgic for unfamiliar places somehow brought all these musical epiphanies together. Kinda crazy what a change of scenery can do.

CITY STROLL

Here’s a tune I have started years ago and finished just recently. The main romp is this funk and fusionesque unison theme, which I came up with. It stayed like that without any additional parts until recently, when I added extra sections to it. I feel it matches the title, as a sort of optimist, open minded stroll along the streets of a city you’re exploring first time…

Built around a recording of an alarm forming the audio background to a hospital visit. Musings on dementia.

Turbulent word streams, erratic coherence
Urgent meanings frustratingly mislaid
Inner sense to outer muddle [innocence]
Interface to inner struggle [in your face]
Fragmented paranoia, translucent target, floating beyond the grasp of balanced conscience
Unviolated nuance beyond interpretation
Disjointed intelligence, resentful agitation

Agitation

Some silences are active: they breathe, they change, they remember. In the void beyond meaning, thoughts fluctuate without sequence, and identity dissolves in waves of colorless rhythm. The self stops, and what remains is a pulse that belongs to no one. Faces bloom in fiction, and love forgets how to undulate. Even the future casts shadows here.
