I need peace in my life and there you are.

A lovely piece for October as well; melodically rich, beautifully played, and begging for a lyric.

Written for a family whose child has a medical problem, and because they were poor were were wrongly accused of it being the mother's fault. They battled the courts for four years.  He recently passed on from brainstem neurodegenerative disease that he had when the nightmare began.  Mayo Clinic now has his brain for research as his condition was so rare.

I made this for my little sister; it's a string of cameos about the town where we were born and raised - a suburb of Newcastle Upon Tyne.  Low income, but real world, real people, real troubles, real joy, real love, real communities, real humour, real music, real life.  All in gloriously rough 1960's industrial working class North East England monochrome.

Started as a scribble, pretended to be a poem for a while, then I decided to noodle along and then.....  Ah, you know how it is.....in Byker town.

The situation in Ukraine is heartbreaking and incomprehensible……it ain't right.

I saw one specific example (of many) in a news article that really got to me about the effects of this senseless war on ordinary people.  People just trying to live their ordinary human lives in peace, coming from towns probably similar to the one you or I may have grown up in.  Instead, they are ripped from this existence because a psychopath decides he needs to acquire a new piece of dirt and a bigger crown.  He will level cities and mow down innocent people to get it.  

I recently watched a news feature covering a shell shocked 15 year old boy who had lost his mother in an awful attack.  He was still obviously stunned and coping.  Towards the end of the interview it became clear that one of his coping mechanisms was just wanting to play his guitar for awhile to get through the dark nights ahead….to hold on to a strand of something normal.  This hit me quite hard as it is probably a characteristic I too would have fallen back on as coping mechanism (a keyboard in my case)

 The other powerful thing that came through was his un-questioned determination to still go back and rebuild the city one day. This seemed to be just a given.  This was going to happen. This steadfast resolve and heroism in the Ukrainian people in general is moving and inspiring and probably has a lot to do with what they went through and achieved in the 2013/2014 timeframe when they ousted a Putin placed dictator the first time.  The Netflix documentary called Winter on Fire captures this struggle for independence very well.  They will not give up this hard won independence easily.

This all influenced my latest song creation.  

Thank You for your courage Andriy and I wish you strength, resilience and resolve to keep moving forward.  This song is dedicated to you and your family.

Wonderful Sight

A side track suddenly popped into my head. It's something that happens to me sometimes. And I tried to catch it, because an hour later it probably wasn't there anymore.

I sent it to our dear poet/lyricist Peter, and it only took a couple of hours for an absolutely wonderful lyrical interpretation to be in my box.
Peter explained that this song's name was "Gaza" and I understood where we were going. A heartfelt thank you my friend, for your brilliant creations with your poetic vein.

Pray, which good God has cast this spell?
In dusty lands of diverse brilliant ancient provenance
Where peoples cherish but the solitary aim to dispatch to hell
Their neighbouring humanity through inculcated intolerance.

Our next journey is unusual, but necessary. And each of us should make it in our hearts, and then invite other people to join us on this journey - a journey to world peace. The problem is still very relevant!!!
    This piece is our tribute to the victims of the nuclear attack in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. It is also a cry and an appeal for world peace!
    Artur: „When I got this intriguing synth track from my friend (Well) to record my guitar part, I was looking for the key to this song. Everything became clear after watching the film "Oppenheimer" by Christopher Nolan. I was deeply moved! May such a tragedy never happen again."
    Håkan: „I made this synth track and sent it over to Artur, hoping he could use it. He envisioned this theme and everything fell into place.
