Immersed in a vast fairytale land on the border between reality and fantasy - but more pendants by the latter side - Bulgaria's finest "Wake Up Stran-Jah Festival" is about to take place, again, 6-9 August. Staying true to its roots, it aims to promote the finest local talents alongside internationally renowned names, giving life to what could be more defined as an experience, rather than just a festival. In fact, Wake Up Stran-Jah is now a good reason to visit Bulgaria if you are looking for an off-kilter raving effort, as days, beats, and minds will blend together, generating one-of-a-kind energy that leaves a mark and keeps you charged for a good few months.

Today, we bring you three hours from a loooong 14-hour session recorded at a home gathering in Berlin during April 2020 by Laylla Dane – one of the country’s finest DJ exports and head of the festival – plus fellow Bulgarian talents Bosha and Garo, all together for a mind-blowing b2b2b session to celebrate the birthdays of Laylla and Bosha.

Despite being recorded in an intimate homemade situation, this mix will instantly bring you right in the middle of Wake Up Stran-Jah Festival, into a colorful crowd and a spectacular location, two essential ingredients that create an atmosphere that could be described with a single word - utopia.

Labelled by @resident-advisor as "one of the classiest and grooviest house DJs out there," @danaruh is a musician who lives and breathes music like few others. Thoroughly obsessed by the complexities of sound, she's as renowned for his wizardry behind the decks as she is her label, @brouqade -as well as her role at fledgling Berlin music space, 60waves store. A native of Gera, Ruh has been firmly settled in Berlin for over a decade now, with Germany's capital continuing to play a profound effect on her unique way of working. An impressively multifaceted musician, Ruh's early sound was often characterised by its subtle, minimal tropes, although these days she's equally as likely to champion classy, up-tempo house as she is a tougher, more peak-time techno vibe. It's a way of working that means she's equally comfortable throwing it down in Romania as she Ibiza or at her summer residency at Berlin's Club der visionaere. A master of the subtle groove, Ruh's work continues to draw praise from electronic music's most respected names, with her highly-regarded debut LP, Naturally, released via @jus-ed @undergroundquality. Added to this, further celebrated releases have arrived recently via equally discerning outposts such as @barbara-preisinger, Cave Records and @autoreply. Closer to home, Ruh continues to rep her Brougade imprint with distinction. Conceived in 2007, the label is now firmly established one that's equally likely to push forward-thinking up-and-coming artists and established names alike. As one of the founder of @kma60 he established 60waves, an independent record store in berlin, releasing her latest album 2020 on Cave Recordings Dana is never sitting still. after her Release on @smallville-records in 2023 and back on Brougade and with a live set to perform She will not stop to create.

Amsterdam based Eversines is most definitely one of these artists that is always capable of taking a dancefloor on a proper journey. The Breakfast Club resident and De Lichting label co-founder has a huge amount of sounds to draw upon as his discography will give a massive hint towards. Works on the likes of Twig, Slow Life, his own De Lichting, as well as Kalahari Oyster Club and his album “Dwang” on Ninih being particular personal highlights for us. 

With a sound palette ranging from lush soundscapes, and tight modular grooves, right the way through to the toughest of kicks and outrageous acid lines. This is an ethos that Eversines propels into his DJ sets as well as his live performances, and for an example of the latter check out our coverage of Breakfast Club’s marathon at this year’s ADE where he had The Other Side rocking.

In keeping with this wide array of sounds at his disposal, Eversines has lovingly crafted a near 2 hour trip that treads a deeper path but peppered with moments of peak time action that he regularly dips into. Taking care to slowly build up the pressure, deep analog rhythms are a mainstay while atmospheric techno, proto tech house, and the odd progressive gem is used to punctuate the mood nicely.
