After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

'Whi5tleblower' is a propulsive opener underpinned by a ferocious garage beat that occasionally recedes into dub-y dread inducing atmospherics, before inevitably getting even heavier and more intense. 'Defrost' is a particularly massive and sophisticated floor filler that features a tense emotional edge, while 'Crystal Math' is a shimmering and hazy atmospheric palate-cleanser.

This is their first ep with us and boy are we impressed.

First out there is "Find You". A very dark and rifty track that starts out with full effect. The tactic seems to be to wake up the listener. Right from second one the bass hit you in the face and twisty acid effects build up a nice suspension. 

On the remix side we have https://soundcloud.com/bjoern-stoerig. The beer deliver a well crafted slow burner with focus on bass and horns. Perfect way to start of a early evening dance floor. 

Second track on the ep is the up tempo track with brilliant vocals. It is called "Take It All Back" and this is a burner! This little sucker have been on repeat for a while and we think it will suit you to. 

Last but not least we finish with the duo https://soundcloud.com/long_harris. These guys are a rising star and put the word "Club" into their attempt to make you move. Focus on bass and drive. This for sure will make you dance!

Soma add another Glasgow based artist to the roster in the form of young talent Deepbass. After a string of successful releases on his own Informa Records, Soma welcomes his sub aquatic sounds into the fold. Deepbass definitely brings his own unique sound to the label and kicks off his account with two bass driven, deep Techno killers.

Title track Moha starts the EP off in typical Deepbass fashion. A solid foundation is built from the start as Deepbass gradually introduces each element of the track slowly. Swirling, dubbed out percussion floats by as hypnotic synth elements are padded out with eloquently phrased pads that glide through the background. Deepbass excels in creating a real sense of tension throughout his music and Moha is a great example of this. 

Dune follows up perfectly from the opener. Subtle percussion and dream like pads, just thought out enough to become reality, gently straddle another venture into heavy sub bass territory. Faint touches on delay and reverb space the track out even more as Deepbass lets this loop out to help give a sense of direction and purpose to the overall track.

Deepbass is certainly one who has been working hard in the background of the Techno scene for some time now and Soma are proud to add him to the list of home based talent on the label.
