 A joyous, musical family up through the tumultuous teenage years…

Bach’s Daughter  
Cajoled,  indoctrinated, and finally dragged into darkness…..Piano, String quintet 

Movement 1
Walking alone…melancholy solo piano
Mother’s lament…joined by violin
Movement 2
Lurking predators…insistent piano, sinister cello  
Caught up in an inferno with no way out;  please come home…strings, a relentless ride peppered with Ashkenazi wailing
The brutal truth…pounding deep piano octaves
The unraveling of her budding self…solo violin 
Blow to the head…ascending violin, suddenly stops, strings swell in response  
She sees stars…tinkling high piano notes
Comes to and realizes he’s a madman. She runs, is caught, interrogated….fast descending piano chords, then octaves 
The peal of warning…seven accented piano notes
The threat that seals her fate....pounding piano on low octaves; then punctuated by dramatic descending diminished chords
Dragged away into wretched captivity…piano with call/response diminished chords 
Movement 3 
Walking alone, hopeless, spirit crushed…solo piano
 
Motherhood…in Peril 
The resilience of her tenacious spirit; her two young children reveal the flicker of hope... Piano, string quintet
