For the 101th episode of our podcast serie we're very happy to welcome our dear resident DJ and producer Emika Elena. 

Emika joined Art Bei Ton a couple of years ago and has been delivering since then amazing music at our events. Her project Human Lesson has been attracting some of the most talented deep artists in the techno scene.

She recorded for us today a downtempo, relaxing and introspective mix filled with dark tones and intricate rhythms.

Emika Elena is a Berlin based DJ/producer and founder of HumanLessons.

Music has always been a huge part of her life, ever since she started playing piano in her family home at the age of 4, but it was the discovery of techno in her early teens that led her to become a DJ.
 
Her trademark sound is often described as "hypnotic darkness" which intersects expressions of ambient, experimental, and techno in her mixes.

She is breaking out of standards and creating a new feeling of deepness and true creativity. You can hear her authenticity carrying you to the spheres of your inner soul.

DJ and producer since 2012, he held the position of resident at Kwartz Club for seven years, from 2016 to 2023. During this period, he shared his artistic vision by inviting international artists such as Antigone, Adriana Lopez, Mike Parker, Peter Van Hoesen, Adiel, Stephanie Sykes, Nur Jaber, to name a few.
 

This experience opened doors for the native of the Côte d'Azur, allowing him to perform in numerous clubs and festivals across Europe and beyond. Notable venues include the legendary Parisian barge "La Concrete," Suicide Club in Berlin, Plages Electroniques in Cannes, Zodiak in Brussels, DiscotecaNordest in Vicenza, SpaceMonki in Zurich, and Waxbar in Tunis. 
 

On the production front, Hidden Recordings trusted him from the beginning, releasing several vinyl records with well-established remixers in the electronic scene. His debut, "From Nice To Berlin," produced in Berlin in 2012, was remixed by the highly respected New Yorker, Fred P. In 2018, he also appeared on the Dutch label Dynamic Reflection by the duo Abstract Division, and
in 2020 and 2021, he contributed to two compilations on Coyu's label, Suara Music.

In early 2023, he launched his own label, Cielo Records, with three new releases that mark an innovative point in his production, spanning various musical styles (Downtempo, Deep Techno, Future Groove, and Jungle). These productions have been played by renowned artists such as Richie Hawtin, Rene
Wise, Eric Cloutier, and many others, in the world's top clubs and festivals, from Berghain in Berlin to Amnesia in Ibiza, passing through Bassiani in Tbilisi, Sonus Festival in Croatia, and Glitch Festival in Malta. Please welcome @jclaurentmusic

With our 18th Herbarium episode we present our dear @ftp_doctor. He is the person who supports this label immensely with his expertise in terms of mastering, musical advice and outrageous jokes💕
He is always exploring the limits of dance music with out-of-the-box-ideas which lead him to an interesting mixture of breakbeat, 4tothefloor and textured sound design with a slight touch of trash and ADHD.

FTP Doctor chose the plant Salvia Divinorum for his mix. Here is why:
Salvia Divinorum is a medicine and an entheogen, which is often stigmatized and/or very unknown around the globe. It is actually one of the most powerful compounds in nature that lets us interact and explore our (sub)consciousnes. To honor this truly unique gift from nature i wanted to create a tense, colourful mix that brings a lot of different styles together.

About FTP Doctor

'FTP Doctor' doesn't give a damn about genre boundaries, on the contrary, he really challenges unusual combinations. Between techno, hip-hop, house, instrumental influences and much more, nothing is left out. The mood palette of the Munich-based musician is just as diverse. In his productions you can find tracks that cover everything possible from warm, harmonic to unsatisfying and at the same time aesthetic sound colors by means of targeted sound designs. After Niklas Bühler produced techno and ambient under his previous pseudonym 'Delusional Circuits' for the label 'IO', he opens his style under a new name. He appears like a musical chameleon, taking the modern pop and internet culture for a ride with an ironic wink. Besides this project, he is also part of the Munich-based ensemble 'Lyder', which focuses on the fusion of electronic music and jazz.

Herbarium No 18 - FTP Doctor - Salvia Divinorum

Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission.

“This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.”

Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. Tune in for high fidelity alien psychadelia teased over hypnotizing interstellar grooves 👽👾🛸
