Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @sebastianbayne for its twenty first episode of Amplify Series.

Sebastian Bayne is a DJ, producer and owner of IF? Records based in Sydney. His passion for techno extends beyond merely producing it. Having established an early appreciation for electronic music, he went on to become IF? Records' label owner in 2010, taking over from the label’s co-founder Andrez Bergen aka Little Nobody. The label was originally established in Melbourne in 1995 and has since moved to Tokyo and back to Australia, in Sydney, where it now resides.

Bayne’s experience isn’t limited to Australia. In fact, it wasn’t until the vinyl collector was studying in the UK that he first tried his hand at DJing. Since DJing professionally from 2000, he has reached heights that many others cannot attest to. He has performed at the Great Wall of China, toured China and Hong Kong as well as hold down his first residency in Beijing. He has performed twice in Georgia’s capital city, Tbilisi, with one being regarded as special for the artist, who’s 3 hour set turned into an 8 hour one. 

In the last few of years, Bayne has scored a regular closing slot at Tresor, Berlin. On his most recent trip early this year, he played alongside Juan Atkins and Fred P. AKA Black Jazz Consortium, while in the past, he has been lucky enough to support some of the world’s best talent abroad, such as, Octave One, Heiko Laux, Alan Fitzpatrick and Vince Watson among many others. It’s these early moments in his career that have proven to be truly defining for that artist.

Sebastian Bayne is known for playing and producing heavy techno. Heaving and pounding in all its glory. But Bayne isn’t one to limit his inspirations. Despite listing techno and reggae as his favourites, he listens to every genre from classical, to country and folk, rock, hip hop and world music. It is this point of difference that has led Sebastian to play at all the best techno parties in Sydney over the past decade including Technikal, Beware the Cat, Subservice, Deep as Funk, Lost Baggage, Disconnected.,

Notable releases from Bayne, include his debut EP “Dub City,” which was released on vinyl in 2007 and reached # 7 in the German Club Charts. He continued to win over support from the global techno scene, with his track “Dark of the Moon”. Firstly being charted as the #2 track of 2012 by Holland’s first lady of techno, Sandrien. And subsequently included in Trouw’s Mix of tracks which shaped the club that year. His latest success from 2016, The Neufeld Coil, was a single acid track on Rebekah’s Decoy label, and was hammered by Berghain resident Norman Nodge in the latter part of that year. 

 

It was through his position at IF? Records that his managerial powers flourished, giving him the opportunity to tour and release the best of underground techno, As someone with as long a history with the brand as Bayne’s, he has witnessed releases from artists like Indigo Kennedy, Enclave, James Ruskin, Aux 88, Ade Fenton, Si Begg, Dave Angel, Justin Berkovi, K. Alexi Shelby, Steve Stoll, BCR Boys, Justin Robertson, Thomas Heckmann and Jammin’ Unit. 

He continues to work with Sydney techno brands Anomaly, Something Else, Church of Techno, .darkroom and Trench working on the Sydney appearances of DJ Pete, Inigo Kennedy, Drumcell, Delta Funktionen and Sleeparchive, with Bayne playing in support.

For Bayne, DJing became “impossible to resist,” but becoming the pioneering label owner that he is today, is a position he has achieved through more than just curiosity, but pure dedication to techno.

Amplify Series 21 - Sebastian Bayne

With her adoration of connecting human beings to themselves deeply through the ever evolving nature of the raw, rebellious and inquisitive sounds of life, Ish Anja creates a journey that is explorative and hits the sweet spot. A variety of frequencies ranging within ambient and transforming into deeper, raw techno conveys an experience where others can learn to dance with both the dark and the light of life. She hopes it will leave people experiencing the everyday journey with more of an open heart and a playful mind, as they let the healing nature of electronic sound do what needs to be done.

Ish Anja like to carry sounds within her mixes that give others a feeling of familiarity, where they have been to that specific place or to a place unknown. Ish Anja has loved sharing sounds with others since she was younger, and is now continuing to do so around Melbourne as she shapes her sound into who she truly is and what she wants to bring to others in her sounds and in the music community - depth, curiosity, unity, exploration, and a euphoric, familiar feeling that is sometimes hard for all of us to explain.

As she has now been making her mark around Melbourne as well as recently becoming a resident DJ of Rewired Rhythms, Ish Anja hopes to create an experience influenced by sound, art and mystery that she feels is still unknown to those in Melbourne. She also will be releasing a few of her own stuff in later 2022 which is amongst the spectrum of deeper raw techno and ethereal electronic. Alongside her music, she is also passionate about humanitarian (animals, nature, our freedom) causes that are close to her and hopes that the way she speaks through her writing, music and art can cultivate an initial rebellious spark for everybody to want to create change in unison.

E V E (Eve Bell) is a Naarm (Melbourne) based DJ, and co-founder of Melbourne based  techno collective, Aura Productions. E V E has assisted in co-creating the ideas and sound that make up Aura Productions through her love of electronic music, art, and the Melbourne music industry. 
As a DJ, E V E’s style focuses on deep, drivey bass lines and hypnotic rhythms, creating a groovy flow whilst exploring a dark atmospheric side of techno. 
Having played for some of the most respected crews and events across Melbourne, including Bunker, Warg, Melbourne Techno Collective, Technoir, All Sorts and Connection Verified - E V E has been making a name for herself over the past couple of years with her diverse sets and energy she easily adapts to any time of the night.

For Vol.4 we have invited one of our favourite hypnotists - Apsarah, to weave her dark, moody magic.

Over the years Apsarah has shaped her own unique style of dark and hypnotizing sounds. Bringing a strong European influence into her sets, she creates diverse and captivating journeys that often leave the dance floor yearning for more.

Leaving the comfort of her home in Germany has evolved into a life changing adventure and exploration of all things creative. Soon enough she fell in love with Melbourne - which she calls her home today. Apsarah is a key member of art collective Savage Art Productions which allows her to expand her creative purpose not only in music but all things arts. 2022 has also seen her launch her own 'Anomalie Collective' brand as a way to showcase the European sound she represents in Australia.

Founded in 2017, Katharsis Recordings is back with their second release that features tracks from four timely Japanese artists, the label heads Masafumi Take and Kannabi as well as guests O-Ma and Ryogo Yamamori.

The Various Artists - Katharsis 002 EP is a unique mix of modern techno that combines ambient, melodic, psychedelic and deep sounds providing an intense trip, finished by Yamamori's intense track Yoake.

Monument previews Masafumi Take's delicate and melodic track Mikuni Kaido, that opens the truly unique release. 

The Katharsis 002 EP will be released on the 4th of June 2018.
