Wind’s Chime was composed for two harps and evokes the sound of wind chimes. When I heard the clear ringing timbre of the harp’s high register that reminded me of wind chimes. Plus, the sound of wind chimes conjures memories of my hometown in Taiwan, where they are hung everywhere because they are traditionally thought to bring safety and blessing, as well as to enhance meditation and prayer. In the United States, I live across the alley from neighbors who hang many different wind chimes from their balcony. Their sound fills my neighborhood and is neither near nor far, but instead light and ethereal. As I walk through my neighborhood, I often cannot help but to stop and listen, allowing the sound to flood my memory and the melodies to transport me back to Taiwan.
