Gabe Gurnsey will release his 14 track debut solo album, 'Physical' via @phantasysound, on double vinyl, CD and digital.

If you want to know what Gabe Gurnsey’s debut LP sounds like, the first thing you should do is put aside Factory Floor, the group he co-founded 13 years ago. Gone are the cold, lengthy, stripped back deconstructions of no wave electronica and industrial techno, abandoned in favour of something altogether warmer, torrid and succinct.

“It’s a real departure from Factory Floor” he says. “What I wanted to get into with Physical had more to do with exploring songwriting and structure. The album is very escapist in one sense even though I don’t want to escape from Factory Floor but what I do on my own has to be separate and it has to explore new avenues.”

The album features additional production and was mixed by Erol Alkan.

We’ve come a long way since the UK’s first Pride nearly fifty years ago: legal protections, equality law, the right to marry the person we love - freedoms our queer forebears could only dream of. The political and legal situation, in tandem with endemic social homophobia, gave a sense of purpose and solidarity in those early years only strengthened by the AIDS crisis of the 80s and 90s: we had to tell ourselves to be proud when so many wanted to shame us.

While today things are far from perfect, no on can deny things are vastly improved. So what is the point of Pride today? Is there truth to the criticism it has descended into a commercial roadshow? Has the message of inclusiveness been lost when there is now Black Pride and Trans Pride and a scene that increasingly reflects fragmentation and segregation? Can we really say we’re proud of ourselves and all of our LGBTQ community - does that community even exist beyond a convenient string of letters?

The tenth release for Interzone Music Club comes in the form of the debut for Northdown, his single “Dancing Alone”. An insistent, growing slice of electro with just a pinch of sleaze, “Dancing Alone” is a strong starter for Northdown.

A long time party goer-turned DJ-turned producer originally from Wigan, now residing in Margate after 15 years in London, Northdown is the nom de guerre of Ant C, co-founder and resident of East End shindig TUSK and now part of the Queer Neon Collective.

After a very successful launch for Queer Neon in Margate in February, a planned run of basement parties was quickly scuppered by the Covid crisis. 

Born of the subsequent lockdown, “Dancing Alone” came about from Ant’s frustration and need for something creative to focus on, plus his feelings around the situation and how it is affecting so many people.

Alongside the original comes a remix from Interzone Music Club label co-founder Spatial Awareness, who ups the electro ante and the tempo; and a breathtaking cosmic ambient afrobeat reworking from London’s underground hero Jaye Ward.
