Thanks very much to Malte for reaching out to suggest the collaboration, all based on his instinctual hunch that our musical styles would resonate - he couldn’t have been more correct….this was a magical meeting of minds, musically we really gelled, and I found the whole process highly enjoyable and inspiring. Enter the mist-wrapped mountain passes of the Balkans. “Chalga of the Carpathians” weaves hypnotic non-lexical chants, polyphonic vocal trills, and breath-punctuated harmonies into a forest-born ritual. Gadulka drones, kaval flourishes, and tapan drum rhythms echo through the Carpathian dusk, accompanied by goatskin frame drum taps, swirling Şalgam reeds, and pine-shaded field recordings.

This session honors the ecstatic tradition of mountain song—from Bulgarian village calls to Romanian forest hymns. It’s a trance of stone and smoke, echo and breath.
