After playing with Batuhan Bozkurt's splendid Otomata app (www.earslap.com), I was inspired to try writing something similar in ChucK.  While my program is not interactive like Otomata, and the display is not nearly as nice (see the attached image for an example of my grid), my program still has some nice features:
- many of the parameters can be configured, such as the scale used, the grid size, the maximum number of balls on the grid, &c.
- balls are randomly generated into the grid, and have a set life span (number of bounces/collisions allowed), so that new balls can be generated
- the balls are accompanied by randomly generated pad and violin sounds
This example uses a pentatonic scale - I have also had interesting results with harmonic series, a 5-TET scale, a 6-TET (whole-tone) scale, a 31-TET scale, and an octatonic scale (alternating major and minor 2nds).

More random goodness from ChucK - sequences upon sequences

This is my take on Risset's Arpeggio and the work that various others have done with it.  The sound was produced using a group of programs written using ChucK, based on an example by Arve Knudsen.  I added several variations of the arpeggio instrument, using more than 20 "famous" number sequences, such as the Fibonacci, Lucas, Hofstadter, Pell, Jacobsthal, &c.  The name of the work is derived from the first and last sequences used: the "happy" numbers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_number) and the "lucky" numbers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_number).

This is another take on my Sphärenmusik generator.  I layered generated output from the original program: one playing forward, another playing backward, and several additional layers synthesized from the original.  I look forward to getting some comments.

My compositional style is rather eclectic, ranging from traditional folk music to neoclassical to deterministic, and several things in between.  I use a variety of free software for creating electronic music, including SunVox, ChucK, IanniX, and Audacity.  I am always interested in learning new techniques and trying different styles.  I studied music composition with Stanley Hollingsworth, and Early Music (including lute) with Lyle Nordstrom.  I regularly perform on various acoustic instruments, including keyboards, bass and acoustic guitars, recorder, and penny whistle - though my first love is piano.
