Program Notes: Ledge is a work for solo piano designed to feel unstable and manic. The piece changes time signatures regularly, often between compound meters. There is some repetitive material throughout the piece, but each time the material is presented it is altered slightly. The title, Ledge was conceptualized from both a literal and metaphorical standpoint. The piece demonstrates what it feels like to stand on a ledge, reconciling whether or not to jump off, and/or demonstrates being on a ledge of mental stability- one side is sanity, the other insanity.
