TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ KEY CLEF

Key Clef is a Berlin based, italian dj and producer with strong passion for analogue instruments, founder of the label Ipnotica Erotica.
After experiencing the last years of the flourishing rave scene in Rome and accomplishing a degree in sound engineering her creative process evolved into different directions from club music, to performance art and electro acoustics.
In 2013 she released her first digital EP followed by releases on Love Blast, KKY, MinimalRome, BlackWater, DelirioRec, Mitten and Undersound Rec.
In her own world music is a continuous dialogue between styles and hybridization. Her music productions as well her live performances include synth, drum machines and analogue effects reflecting her ethereal trajectory while her dj sets show the full prism of her music taste and knowledge of the dance floor.
Key Clef sound doesn’t hit the surface but instead aims to channel emotions and contact between her music and the audience.

"Live improvised hardware connects so directly to the fundamental rawness of electronic music." UK techno lynchpin Surgeon reflects on his connection to machines and making music on the fly.

Surgeon, also known as Anthony Child, has been one of techno's most influential and consistently brilliant artists since the mid-'90s. For the last decade, he has spent most of his creative resources on developing his abilities as a live performer, in his usual techno environment as well as more abstract settings. As Child reinforces in this live Dekmantel Exchange with Aaron Coultate, his live performance practice is at the heart of his creativity. "There was literally one day I woke up and realized that having the computer—DJing, as it were—was getting in the way of taking this form of performing further," he says. "That was determining the structure of what I was doing. And to be truly freeform and improvisational I had to be free of this imposed structure."

This archived conversation comes on the heels of Surgeon's most recent LP, Crash Recoil, which RA music critic Kiana Mickles hailed as "one of his best albums ever." Radio al hilo de lo que sucedió en Madrid en el lustro que solapó el cambio de Siglo. Un relato de como la escena electrónica explosionó y dispersó las semillas de los árboles que hoy dan cobijo al jolgorio y a la electrónica de nuestro estrato. 

Un programa que narra las vivencias de los últimos fiesteros que pagaron el ropero en pesetas, de los últimos sin tener acceso generalizado a internet y los primeros en ver la ciudad plagada de clubs y de clubbers... es un programa sobre los años que hicieron de bisagra entre una era y otra. 

Nosotros pasábamos por ahí. Imberbes, tan inocentes como pícaros, y con el privilegio y la curiosidad de quien está descubriendo algo mientras que ese mismo algo se descubre así mismo. 

La banda sonora de todo aquello fue el Techno, el de verdad, del que gusta a propios y a extraños. Hipnóticos loops con provenientes estribillos directos al baile, la inconsciencia y a la psicodelia más tribal de todas. La selección musical es trackazo tras trackazo. 

En definitiva, es un programa sobre cómo la electrónica fraguó para siempre en la ciudad. Templos, himnos y fiesteros en masa llegaron para quedarse, y con ellos una manera de vivirla y de vivirse.

Yearn/Linn's Birthday Party (Part 2)

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard the Los Angeles-based DJ and producer @silentservant (Sandwell District, Jealous God, Hospital Productions) for the first episode of their Amplify Series.

Juan Mendez has been composing for a decade an obscure and powerful techno under the name of Silent Servant. Cradled as a teenager by post-punk, the Californian has retained the taste for dark and tense atmospheres, which can be found in his polished and violent productions. 
Released at the end of 2018, on the prestigious Hospital Productions label, “Shadows Of Death And Desire” is his second album. It continues the path carved out by “Negative Fascination”, published in 2011, which is a true electro-noise manifesto of fascinating darkness.

Hyperactive man of multiple projects (Tropic Of Cancer, label Cytrax, art director), he draws his inspiration from the DIY 70s’ post punk and wave obscurities and later on, electronic warehouse parties in DTLA.

Nobody can escape the ravages of Silent Servant.
