Bad Boi Bizness

A week after Basscamp 2023, and my heart is still brimming with the  energy of that  weekend. I have boundless gratitude to Darcy, Atlanta, and the entire Enigmatic Industries team for making this years Basscamp one that will never be forgotten. This year, they've truly outdone themselves, and it's as if the benevolent deities above have showered us all with their  blessings, painting our days with sunshine and our nights with shimmering stars.

Absolutely incredible weekend with so many bloody awesome humans. I had the joy of meeting countless individuals who had been my "online DJ mates" for some time, rekindling connections with dear old friends, and weaving new friendships that seem as vast as the cosmos itself. It was a weekend filled with electrifying music, laughing til it hurts, and endless banter - a true treasure worth falling over for time and time again (I have so many bruises).

Finally uploading my set to Soundcloud, a gift for those who missed it, a sweet memory for those who wish to relive it, and a harmonious journey for all those in between.

My heart is full of love for the extended Basscamp family, and I can't wait to reunite with each and every one of you. Until then, may your lives be filled with joy and bass so sick it makes you spew!

Basscamp 2023 Set - 20 October 2023

My closing set for the launch party of Lowfreq., a new showcase of all things deep and dark. Massive props to all of the DJs that performed and spun some wicked deep dub, left-field bass and IDM.

This set journeys from 140 deep dub, through 160 half-time and footwork, and finishes on some moody and techy dnb. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did playing it out!

Bacterial Blend is a DJ and Producer hailing from Fondi, Italy. He embarked on his journey into the world of drum and bass in 2013, achieving a significant milestone by clinching victory in an Underground Area competition. This triumph propelled him onto major stages, notably the International Drum'n'Bass Meeting in Bologna in 2014.Since then, he has continued to grace audiences in Rome and various cities across Italy.

Having earned the opportunity to share the stage with internationally renowned artists such as Spor, Spy, Concord Dawn, Sinister Souls, Zombie Cats, Aphrodite, Benny L, Serum, Marcus Intalex, and IHR, amongst many others, Bacterial Blend has solidified his presence in the global drum and bass scene. Presently, he resides in Naarm (Melbourne, AU), where he has seamlessly integrated into the local music community, becoming a familiar figure in the drum and bass circuit.

Bacterial Blend's performances have been showcased at Naarm events hosted by Twisted Audio, Delight, Massive, Stylus Dnb, Headroom, Ohmega, and Noise Enthusiast, as well as at Eora's (Sydney, AU) Afterlife Drum and Bass, Traction, Various Control, Indonesia's Bali Dub Club, Italia Soundgate, Monster DNB, and the International DNB Meeting (Underground Area). Additionally, his talents have featured at festivals including Good Things Festival and WA's Rain Dance Festival.

This set was initially created as a one-hour birthday gift for our friend Acky, who sadly passed away in January. Though I never had the chance to gift it to him, it felt appropriate to play it at sunrise at the tail-end of the Dreadful warehouse party last weekend. Acky was always present on the d-floor in those early hours. He is sorely missed, especially when so many good humans come together to celebrate life and music.

The mix combines ambient, downtempo, prog, breaks, and drum and bass, aiming to evoke feelings of contentment and bliss. It's a bit of a soundtrack for welcoming a new morning, and for moving and stretching to.

Dreadful Downtempo Sunrise Set - 25 May 2024

Kaizen OG is one of the Newy Bass Crew legends and a junglist based in Darkinjoong (NSW Central Coast). With an insatiable appetite for music, he effortlessly traverses all tempos of broken beats, as long as they're accompanied by fat bass lines, infectious riddims, and soulful melodies.

Originally hailing from the UK, Kaizen OG arrived in Australia in 2012, swiftly becoming a part of Eora's drum and bass scene. In 2016, he cut his teeth as a resident DJ at the legendary kickon spot "117" – a place that holds a special allure for those in the know.

His sonic journey has lead him to play some awesome parties including Parkapoolooza, Chinese Laundry, The Elements of Tech and Bass, Afterlife, various Newy Bass Crew events, and Zoo Project, with his debut set being support for Delta Heavy and Matrix & Futurebound.

Although he took a brief hiatus from the club scene to embrace the joys of fatherhood, Kaizen OG channeled his passion into tinkering with sound systems, pushing the limits of speakers (I mean, how do you know where the limit is, if you haven’t kicked it’s head in a couple of times). His ingenuity led him to create a portable rig, enabling him to take his beats to secret spots tucked away in hidden corners.

"I'm a drum and bass and jungle DJ who is part of Newy Bass Crew in Newcastle. I have a big focus on involving myself and our crew in safe spaces, diversity and inclusive.
I've been involved with the drum and bass scene in Australia for a while before I stepped into DJing. Music has always been a cornerstone in my life so being able to express myself through this medium has fed and sated my desire to surround myself with music. 

Festivals and doofs are my happy places, where I can play authentic sets that create emotional journeys through various subgenres. Music is a cathartic experience for me, and influencing the emotions of the audience is a powerful and rewarding privilege.

This set features tracks by women and non-binary artists who inspire me to cultivate connection through music. Piecing together a journey within these guidelines was challenging but fulfilling, given the broad scope of drum and bass and the fewer number of femme artists in the genre. Despite these challenges, blending various subgenres into a cohesive flow was immensely satisfying".
