As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, As the Content development coordinator at FilmAid I responded to the information need through the production and dissemination of information on the Corona Virus. Team of 12 content generators actively took part in the information campaign through the development of 28 audio content translated in 14 languages to facilitate awareness creation through radio and public address announcements in Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps. The messages contained preparedness, awareness, and health precautions to be taken during the outbreak. The production of the audio content has led to greater efficacy in creating awareness of COVID-19 and ensuring safety within the camps. 

FilmAid conducted a survey to assess the effectiveness of its information campaign through the bulk SMS platform. 76% of the respondents (50% in Dadaab, 85% Kakuma & Kalobeyei) out of a sample of 594 reported having accessed COVID 19 services (information, hand washing facilities, testing) as a result of the information campaign. 71% (70% in Dadaab, 71% Kakuma & Kalobeyei) received the same information through an announcement made from speakers on a FilmAid vehicle. 69% (78% in Dadaab, 65% Kakuma &Kalobeyei) received the same information through radio transmitted by FilmAid.

Following the pronouncement on COVID 19 pandemic, The Kenya government gave a directive that led to the closure of all learning institutions in order to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus. Children, especially those living in Kakuma and Kalobeyei refugee and settlement camps have been among those affected. FCA and FilmAid have heightened mass awareness campaigns targeting the general beneficiaries from the refugee and host community respectively. It is however noted that during these sessions, children-specific content has been missing. In order to involve children as players in the response towards keeping coronavirus away from homes, as well as provide alternative educational content to target beneficiaries,

There were a total of 48 Messages produced in 12 languages. (12 PAA, 12 Radio spots on Corona, and 12 PAA,12 Radio spots on Education at home. Languages - Amharic, Somali, Nuer, Dinka, Didinga, Arabic Juba, Lotuko, Anyuak, French, Turkana( Host), English & Swahili.

FCA - Swahili - Corona - Child Messaging In Kalobeyei Settlement - Kakuma Refugee Camp

As the Content Development Coordinator at FilmAid, I produced radio magazine programmes "Sikika" a Swahili word meaning 'to be heard'. Sikika in Swahili is derived from the verb Sikia, which means 'to hear'. Sikika radio show is a magazine programme that seeks to improve audiences’ access to reliable, trustworthy information and increase their knowledge on different issues in the camp. The programme will foster access to information and promote dialogue through the radio listener groups providing the community with a chance to be heard by giving their opinions key in content generation and discussion sessions.

The radio programme includes important and key segments including an infobox which highlights key information and bulletins around the camp. The radio programme has entertainment segments and highlights topical issues such as road safety and health issues including information on COVID-19.
