This live set was my Nowadays debut for Bodyhack Afterparty 09.29.22. 
For this set I tried something new, I wanted to play tracks that have made me emotional specifically at Nowadays along with tracks that I've dreamed of hearing on those fab speakers. I started my set with classic house tracks that struck a chord with me, midway I blended tracks from some of my favorite DJ's and ended with some techno. Hope you like!

"This mix is about focusing in the midst of systemic disorientation, It’s also a series of narrow efforts in resisting the bloodlust of revenge — while recovering from a burnout I didn’t realize I was experiencing until it was too late. While it is never too late to recognize new limits, over-apologizing for them is something I continue to unlearn during recovery.

If nothing else, I hope to fill the space left by those over-apologies with calls to action that result in compassion and reclamation. Those who care know whats up, and those who say they care have some work yet to do. Choosing to reposition ourselves in response is not a crime. I have learned a lot, and refuse to ever be this tired again at the hands of cis dudes and the capitalism that enables them."

Skyshaker is one of several aliases portraying the primal yet dreamlike sound of composer and activist Sky Vemanei. They are most widely known for their shapeshifting remixes of Kelela, Evanescence, Janet Jackson, Cardi B, and the artist formerly known as Le1f. The Skyshaker sound has traversed international airwaves, festival stages, Fashion Week runways, and main floors of nightlife institutions since 2011. It has soundtracked video games such as Fortnite and scored films such as “Soft”, which premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Sky is now head of their own imprints Vemanei Soundsystem and Xemseya Drive with releases forthcoming in 2023.

Beyond nightlife, Sky is a human rights activist fighting for the prosperity of sex workers and transgender people of color. In early 2016, Sky helped establish the international Latin American ballroom community as part of the kiki house of Old Navy and former member of the Houses of Amazon and La’Beija. Upon opening their own house of Vemanei in 2021, Sky continues to pay their experience forward as founder of queer mental health organization Reiout Intergalactic and progenitor of the anticapitalist Xemvedan community. They currently teach online while splitting their time between Guadalajara, Mexico, and Bronx, New York.
