The 14th of September 2016 marks one year since Malcolm Turnbull became the 29th Prime Minister of Australia, taking over from Tony Abbott as the leader of the Coalition. 

Time flies! But have we all had fun with Malcolm as our PM? Has this past year been more of a success, or a disappointment? And would we have been better off with Tony Abbott as PM?

Malcolm Turnbull PM - one year on

Melbourne Music Week is coming up in November - running from the 11th to the 19th - with the full program being announced yesterday. The annual event prides itself on its connections between music, people, and places - with this year’s performance hub being the State Library of Victoria.

The main stage will be within Queen’s Hall - an area of the Library which hasn’t been open for the last 10 years.

The week is gearing up for its 7th year - but what significance does it actually have within Melbourne’s overall cultural scene?

Melbourne Music Week 2016

A recent initiative spearheaded by the State Library of Victoria is urging parents, carers, and/or guardians to read 1000 books to their children before they begin school.

The program seeks to foster a love of books in children from a very young age, so as to improve their reading, literacy, and overall English skills later in life.

I reported on this for Panorama, on SYN 90.7fm. It was broadcast as a part of the Wednesday show on the 26th of October.

1,000 Books Before School

If you’ve been outside recently, you may have noticed a few more mosquitoes flying around than usual. If you haven’t noticed this yet, consider yourself lucky! But you’ll probably notice it soon.

Although we haven’t reached summer yet, Victoria is in the midst of a mosquito outbreak. 

But is this really as bad as it sounds? Or is it just a minor, annoying inconvenience that we have to deal with - a bit earlier than usual?
