Dylan Maxwell is an inventor and traveler whom I met first in Dali, Yunnan China in 2010. Most recently Dylan has designed a rocket stove that uses wood and charcoal to produce a smokeless flame.  This has big implications because much of the developing world including many villages throughout rural China still rely on smokey stoves for cooking and warmth. This indoor air pollution contains health damaging pollutants that leads to respiratory illnesses. The rocket stove is so much fun and portable I used it to sell omelets on the street for a few months in the summer of 2012. Dylan has released a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for his idea so that he can scale and distribute his stoves through China and Southeast Asia.
