Always using a podcast as a platform for new voices, this mix showcases the communities I am lucky to be a part of. The tracklisting includes mainly women, non-binary and queer producers and their pandemic creations. It spans from Barcelona cyborg and transpecies artist Manel de Aguas who created ambient from the weather variations captured by his head antennas, to the strong sisterhood of women-led queer techno activists of Berlin, Paris and Warsaw. At the heart of this hour going from 127 to 140bpm, is my love for the diversity of technoES, plural, carrying a punk energy.

Tessa, aka TEZIBEL is a DJ, musician and produder from Vienna.
She played the piano for 12 years and started singing when she was 8 but eventually found herself DJing and producing Techno. Although she only uses Vocals very selectively, because of her background she sees them as an integral part of her sets or own productions.

As a DJ, TEZIBEL loves everything that makes the crowd go full out, bouncing between fuzzy Electro, punishing and trippy Techno and always keeping it focused on the dancefloor. Considering that she is a dancer and spinning instructor you will definitely get a good workout with her.

After a few releases with the Austrian label “Vienna Underground Traxx” and a single release for a fundraiser EP in cooperation with “phono.space”, she recently had a release with the international label ”Diffusereality”. The three-track EP called “FORCE” is exactly what she stands for as a producer: dancefloor kicks, pumping basslines combined with her own strong vocals, infused with rhythmical drums.

TEZIBEL is a teamplayer as well. That´s why she connected with Big Stein and DJ Deadlift to form the collective “Redivider” just before the first Covid-19 Lockdown. Although it was a hard time for a new crew, Redivider was able to establish themselves among the Viennese underground scene, hosting parties at various locations all over the city.

Atix - Turn up the beat EP [Barro #009]

With his new reference Barro Music Label takes us back to the nineties and offers us a journey through some of the most cutting-edge styles of the time. Driving the time machine we find French producer Yannick Tranchant, better known as Atix, who delivers a five track EP entitled Turn Up The Beat. Atix has been DJing since '94, first hiphop and hardcore, and then he covered the whole musical spectrum of the decade including drum and bass, techno, or breakbeat, influences that he puts in the shaker to create tracks as powerful as the ones included in this Turn Up The Beat. Yannick is the boss of the label Division Virtuel, where he has released many of his works and where he has welcomed the best of the French underground. His records have also appeared on labels such as Boys Noize's BNR Trax and LOT49. Now, he brings us all the power of old school electro and techno in this banger with a 90’s inspired title.
The A-side opens with Turn Up The Beat: with its hip-hop shouts is an electro track with a classic flavour but with an overwhelming modern production. On New Day the complex rhythmic work is striking, and at times you might even think like you're listening to a real drummer. Wipeout sounds like 90s techno, with those synths so characteristic of the style that transport you directly to a rave in the middle of the forest. The flip side doesn't fall behind in terms of heavy material: Face To Face, with its punchy intro, is a hypnotic techno track with a melody that sticks in your brain. A perfect track to spin in the first hours of the morning. To finish, I Hope To Return is an aggressive, hard closing track with repetitive and incisive synths, a perfect sample of how music can make you high.

The Advent (Cisco Ferreira) delivers his first full-length Electro album in 17 years.  Released this May on Sync 24’s burgeoning Cultivated Electronics label, ‘Life Cycles’ finds the past meeting the future.  Because, to get a truer feel for this new long-player, we should head back even further to a 1995 classic – The Advent’s debut album, ‘Elements Of Life’.  In fact, fans will recognise a nod to the original artwork of that seminal release, as ‘Life Cycles’ takes us full circle, containing unreleased Electro gems from the ‘90s, available for the first time.

“I have been making electro music for nearly 3 decades now and excited to see that it is in demand with this new wave of talented producers out there.  ‘Life Cycles’ is an album where I explore my older past and connect with the future, 2020 and this new electro generation,” says Cisco.

Ever since Cisco Ferreira discovered Acid House in the London clubs he frequented, his journey has been about making his mark on the electronic music scene.  Fresh from college he landed a job as assistant sound-engineer in several recording studios where he learned the art of translating feelings to frequencies, recording high profile artists from the world of Rock, Pop, Dance and Reggae.  When acid label, Jack Trax moved in next-door, Cisco started recording for the likes of Adonis, Fingers Inc, Marshall Jefferson and Derrick May.  These rendezvous sparked the inspiration for his first EPs on R&S and Fragile.  By 1994 Ferreira had signed a record deal for 12 EPs and 3 albums together with Colin McBean.  This was the beginning of an era during which the duo set a worldwide standard for high quality underground Electro and Techno.  They hit the world with a refreshing sound, both as The Advent, and G Flame (Cisco) and Mr G (the alias Colin still uses today).  Nowadays The Advent is a solo project for Cisco as he bombards crowds around the world with his trademark raw, energetic sound.

As much as The Advent is known for uncompromising Techno, so his Electro has been a huge influence for a lot of young Electro artists today (including his own son and sometime Electro collaborator, Zein) and when you listen to ‘Life Cycles’ you’ll understand why.  From the moment the beats kick in on track 1, ‘Music Is Life’ we’re met with full on Advent power.  The album explores classic old-school Electro vibes from the tough machine funk of tracks like ‘This Is Not’ and ‘Vast’ to the acid excursions on ‘Panda’, via some the ghetto boogie of ‘L.U.’ or ‘Stasis V2’.  And lest we forget what an amazing live performer The Advent is, there’s even the deeply hypnotic ‘Live@Motor 1998’.
