ASEC is an up and comer berlin-based artist and label project. Formally raised into music via Manchester and its roots.  Asec’s productions are centered around raw, yet hypnotic dancefloor-oriented electronic music. He focuses on tension and release with tracks that build up momentum and a high level of intensity. Being one of the few acts that involve modular live sets in our techno circuit, he will always tend to deliver consistency, an expansive music vision, consisting of dark textures, idiosyncratic melodies and dynamic drum sounds. Having had a few releases on his label in collaboration with Kwartz (Polegroup) and Tremudo (Klockworks); he also made a track called Thousand Cuts for the 100 years of Colombia Digital Album by Planet X.

Louwave & Splinter (UA) [live jam] joins for DifferentSound Podcast #149.

Ukrainian electronic music artists Splinter (UA) and Louwave have joined creative forces for a live project. After several performances, the duo decided to further collaborate and are currently working on a new sound that will significantly differ from what the producers did individually. Having had over 15 years of experience in music, both artists have sought inspiration from the pioneers of the electronic music scene. They seek to add something new to sounds that have long been established. Louwave and Splinter (UA) have initially worked with each other remotely, yet after Tymur’s relocation from Odesa to Lviv, the producers began working in the studio together. Their process is an exploration and the result – a mixture of old-school vibes that ranges from classic techno to tribal groove, which in the end, is the main aspect of the duo’s live performances. When on stage, the Ukrainian artists strongly rely on the communication process between themselves and the audience, which serves as an essential tool that forms their audio narrative. For both Splinter (UA) and Louwave, music has long ceased to be a hobby. Each studio session is a balanced conceptual challenge: they know exactly what kind of sound they want to create, they search for a specific groove, bring out a certain emotion and merge it with their musical research, whilst never violating the aesthetics of genres. Their work is based on mutual respect and, when necessary, they always look for an artistic compromise.

This week we are joined by ABS8LUTE, a French music activist and passionate digger. As a groove lover, she enjoys driving her crowd into exciting techno storms with hypnotic atmospheres and percussive sounds. Outside of the DJ booth, she works for a better representation of women and people of colour in the industry. She does this by writing for music media like Mixmag France, by animating talks and debates on inclusion for the Paris Electronic Week, and by founding the Vénus Club, a collective of women DJs that recently took the French electronic scene by surprise.

Nihad Tule is a DJ/Producer who likes to wear many hats, as solo artist (Nihad as well as Velež) and as part of collaborative projects Taken (with Elias Landberg) and NTTR-909 with Roseen (with a recent release on Tar Hallow). They’re all techno but each with a distinct flavour. The key ingredient they share is an unvacillating curiosity that typically has him experiment with his collection of hardware and allow himself to channel whatever weird sequences the moment provides. Much like his work behind decks, his sound is tailored for long-haul raving: a maverick mix of frugal bleeps and layer upon layer of rhythmic passion. His self-run label Sloboda is the place to look for the aforementioned. And here comes another. Bassiani Podcast 193 is all gas, no brakes. A turbocharged 75 minute techno paean from this long-serving clubland doyen.

Paris based DJ/Producer Benales is something of a veteran act in his native city of light. He’s played at Laurent Garnier’s Rex, the much-missed Concrete as well as La Station and Berlin staple Tresor. Since the 90s’ twilight years he’s crafted and perfected a raw and utilitarian stripe of techno that’s seen him share the spotlight with the likes of DVS1, Steve Bicknell and James Ruskin. Those references should give you an idea of his sound’s direction of travel, a deep order of ascetic basslines stripped of frills as the Motor City intended. And that goes for his productions too: with names like Construct Re-Form, Sino, Freddy K’s KEY Vinyl, Mitsubasa and Analog Solutions a few of the labels putting out his work (and there’s more in the making). His keen ear and feeling for crowd have earned him an eager audience over the years, and reputation as a go-to for organisers of legendary clubnights Europe-wide. If you’re curious and looking to let yourself fall under his spell, this latest dose of nefarious and wall-shaking beats has you covered.
