 No Panic ! The prefix anti- in antiduo doesn't reflect the 2 musician's troubled relation with music, particularly duos , or the world in general. Anti- rather refers to terms like antithesis, antipodos, just like counter in counterpoint.

The piano is an orchestral instrument. A piano duo can be seen as two orchestras but just as well as two voices or two characters. Erik Vermeulen and Seppe Gebruers both have very pronounced personalities, getting involved in a dialogue within one single ongoing musical story , but developing different storylines or layers. Sometimes they sound like a clash of two temperaments, at other times they speak like one person.

Both are contemporaties with an age difference , having sought ideas and inspiration in a last century of eclecticism, but also far beyond. Erik Vermeulen and Seppe Gebruers both started improvising at a young age,obsessively  looking for useful elements to shape their music.

Improvisation is to them an ideal an ultimate concept. It combines structure and chance, impulsivity and control, tonality and spectral harmony, thoughtful use of time, space and texture, and also poetry.

These duo recordings are the result of several improvised sessions over 2 years, a work in progress inquiring musical technique and meaning.

Voor u bang wordt: het voorvoegsel anti- suggereert niet dat deze  twee muzikanten willen afrekenen met muziek, de duo-vorm in het bijzonder of de wereld in het algemeen. Anti- refereert eerder naar termen als antithese, antipode, zoals contra in contrapunt.

Piano is een orkestraal instrument. Een pianoduo is zowel twee orkesten, maar ook twee stemmen en dus ook twee personages. Erik Vermeulen en Seppe Gebruers zijn twee eigenzinnige persoonlijkheden die binnen eenzelfde verhaal in een dialoog verwikkeld zijn maar tegelijkertijd verschillende lagen ( of verhaallijnen) opbouwen. Soms lijkt het een clash van twee temperamenten, maar even vaak lijkt er maar één iemand aan het woord.

Beide zijn tijdgenoten met leeftijdsverschil die vooral ideeën en inspiratie putten uit een vorige eeuw van eclectiek maar ook ver daarbuiten.  Beide waren al op jonge leeftijd improvisators die al snel in alle richtingen obsessief op zoek gingen naar bruikbare elementen om hun muziek vorm te geven. 

Improvisatie is voor hen het ultieme medium waaraan zowel toeval en structuur, impulsiviteit en controle, tonaliteit maar ook spectrale akkoordopbouw, bewust hanteren van tijd, ruimte en textuur, maar ook poëzie inherent zijn.

Deze duo-opname is de neerslag van verschillende improvisatiesessies over 2 jaar, resultaat van een work in progress met zelfevaluatie rond muzikale technieken en betekenis.
