Clad in tiny pants, if any at all, Leroy Macqueen is waving the freak flag high from the sandy shores of Newcastle, NSW. His partner in crime is Kat Friend, who turns a blind eye while he turns a brown one. Together they are notorious duo The Gooch Palms.

They have been described as "important" by many and have earned themselves quite the reputation here in Australia as one of the must-see live acts in the country. Nudity, blood and violence served right alongside genuine and elated enthusiasm is what audiences have come to expect from these two. In their three year existence they have clocked up a number of km's playing up and down the East coast and graced the stage with the likes of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Thee Oh Sees, Nobunny, King Khan & BBQ Show, Obits, Jeff The Brotherhood and POND and played Big Day Out, Sydney Festival, Hoodoo Guru's: Dig It Up, Boogie Fest and ruffled the industry's feathers at Big Sound.

Behind the stageshow antics, however, The Gooch Palms create infectious songs drenched in pop sensibility and achieve a lot with only vocals, one guitar and two drums. Their sound is big, brash and simple, wavering between brutal and beautiful. It's this juxtaposition that sets them apart from the pack; the sweet and sour, the camaraderie and conflict that is balanced through out their song writing and their live performances.

In the past couple of years they have been a productive little DIY unit, recording and releasing their first 7" EP La Cucarachas Stole My Baby off their own label A-noose Records. Following it up with another self recorded 7" EP R U 4 Sirius? which was mixed and mastered by good friend Owen Penglis of Straight Arrows, released on Anti Fade Records out of Geelong and gained them recognition across the globe, especially in the underground press where it was met with positive reviews. For shits and giggles they recorded and digitally released a Shitty Tribute to the Ramones, a six track tribute to a band they undoubtedly draw inspiration from and have also featured on the Nuggets: Antipodean Interpolations of the First Psychedelic Era compilation CD/LP with a cover of the garage classic Just Like Romeo & Juliet and Anti Fade compilation New Centre of the Universe Vol. II. 

Despite both Leroy and Kat being born amidst a sea of industry and raised on a diet of narrow mindedness and predictability, they have taken their frustrations and turned it to their advantage, drawing inspiration from their situation and surrounds to create their debut album NOVO'S. A somewhat love/hate ode to their hometown. It was once again recorded by the band themselves, at their Newcastle residence dubbed "The Gooch Farm" over the course of 9 short hours. It was then sent to the USA where it was mixed and mastered by Jason Testasecca also known as Elvis Christ and sometimes guitarist for Nobunny at JT Recording Studios in Oakland, California. The Gooch Palms have continued their solid relationship with Anti Fade who will be releasing the long player this October.

Totally Mild - Take Today

Geelong delinquents the Living Eyes have just churned out a second LP of burners to hit the shelves early 2015, following their self-titled debut from 2013.  
Since then the band have thrown around a handful of singles, shows and a split 7”, but its common ground that all arrows are pointed towards this new long player. As of January 30, the Living Eyes will unhinge a new belt of stompers to make up LP round two. 
The album was predominantly recorded by Straight Arrows’ front man Owen Penglis over a day and a half spent in Sydney at Penglis’ new hideout; Goliath Professional Recording Studio. The tapes were then driven back down the Hume highway and finished off in a couple of West Geelong bedrooms, before being mailed to Rye mixing master, Mikey Young. 
Living Large takes off in a somewhat new direction since the S/T LP, filling out with more sharp cuts and guitar crunch but still keeping the snotty sound they’d always had. In a few words – it’s a poppy punk record that sounds nothing like pop punk. 
But it’s nothing to dwell on - its ten tracks wide and 26 minutes minutes long and it’ll spin faster than your average long player any day of the week.
