Here is the first single and opening track off the forthcoming LP "Return to the Golden Era" by Awon & Phoniks entitled "Midas Touch" . "Return to the Golden Era" will be available on iTunes and at http://www.awonandphoniks.com this coming Tuesday, 7/30/2013.

The album attempts to bring back the golden era boombap sound of New York hip hop in the 90's, with sharp, clever emceeing by Newport News' Awon and smooth, jazzy production by Portland producer Phoniks.

Awon is an American underground hip hop artist who is currently making a name for himself amongst the international hip hop community. Most known for his Goon Trax debut, Beautiful Loser, Awon is also part of the group Awon & Kameleon Beats and a member of the hip hop collective, The Soul Students. Awon has worked on various works with Thomas Prime on Waiting for Tomorrow, and Love Supersedes II.

Phoniks is a 22 year old up and coming producer from Portland who has built a reputation online for his series of hip hop remix albums with classic/old school flare, 2011's "The Tape" and 2013's "Basement Vibes" and "Make Beats, Don't Sleep" have achieved success both domestically and internationally through his Bandcamp website. He has been featured on a number of hip hop blogs and magazines including Respect Mag, gripsquad.com,ughh.com, and whudat.de.

The new EP features five new songs (including a Murs feature) and 4 bonus track b-sides.  Ugly Heroes will also being touring Europe for a few weeks this August, starting with the legendary Hip-Hop Kemp Festival before hitting London and a number of other spots (all the dates will soon be up on the MMG Event Calendar). "Street Corners," chronicles the hope, anger and desperation of a man caught in an repetitious  cycle of watching friends come and go, and disheartened as he is in the same position and in the same neighborhood simply counting his hours. Reminiscing of a simpler time, the narration is a set around the feeling of escapism, watching as people around him, who were an integral part of his growth become victims of their decisions and the streets they inhabit.

While this track may seem like a typical and smug ode to the opposite sex, it is quite deceptive in its own right. This song is developed with the streets in mind.
