We're very happy to welcome Antoine to the series. He might operate under the radar but maintains a busy schedule as a heavy contributer to the French scene. He co-heads the well-known Positive Education Festival in Saint-Etienne and the respected Worst Records label as one half of the Les Fils de Jacob crew. He also forms part of the Ultra Low Velocity project together with A Strange Wedding. His solo work enjoys releases on Comic Sans Records, Public Systems Recordings, as well as others. His diverse projects and disciplines can be felt in his selection for the series as they stray completely from any specific genre and can merely be described as elements of trance, dub, electronica, ambient with a psychedelic twist. Lock in!

One month before the Positive Education Festival, which put Saint-Etienne on the French electronic music map, Antoine, one of its programmers, who has been living in Rennes for several years, pays us a visit with his accomplices from the Rennes label Krakzh, Alkini and Rinemax.

In the second part of the show, Antoine and Alkini take control of the turntables to offer us a mix between tribal ambient and deep trance.

ANTOINE B2B ALKINI - ELAB MIXES

@ultralowvelocity is a new project formed by French DJs and producers @antoinnnnnnnne and @a_strange_wedding. Revelling in slow-burning and intensely psychedelic rhythms and atmospheres, the duo’s distinctive, shamanistic sound evokes the sensation of time being warped, whilst embracing sudden changes of sounds and feelings, from dynamic to vapourous. 

As individual artists, the two have made their impact on both the French and European stage thanks to creative output on labels such as @worst_rec and @krakzh, as well as their involvement in Saint Etienne’s @positiveeducationfest.
Kicking off their Ultra Low Velocity project in early 2021 with an EP release on Krakzh, the duo have since had a busy post-lockdown period, taking the stage at festivals and parties across France, including at the Visions and Atom Festivals, a Krakzh label night in Rennes, and soon, the upcoming fifth edition of the Positive Education Festival.

For Patterns of Perception 87, Ultra Low Velocity have shared a snapshot of their arresting current hybrid set. Although each of their performances is unique, this recording is a perfect summation of the carefully sculpted, uniquely energetic and kaleidoscopic nature of their sound. Building from a trippy, experimental-leaning start, this set moves confidently through genres, moods and time signatures, reaching its crescendo with free-wheeling, euphoric abandon.

Something a bit different from our usual podcasts, today is all about psychedelic raving with no other one than @ultralowvelocity, the upcoming project from @antoinnnnnnnne and @a_strange_wedding 

“Ultra low velocity zones (ULVZs) are patches on the core-mantle boundary that have extremely low seismic velocities. The zones are mapped to be hundreds of kilometers in diameter and tens of kilometers thick. Their shear wave velocities can be up to 30% lower than surrounding material. The composition and origin of the zones remain uncertain.

In the middle of the summer, lost in the mountains of Ardèche in France, took place the mighty Champs Libres event, hosted by the one and only @rochel. It is in this magnificent landscape and surrounded by friends from all over the country that ULV came to life.

As the sun went down and the stars started to shine, they drove the crowd through a 3 hours journey, from abstract percussion madness to deep and visceral techno, slowly sinking the dancefloor into a psychedelic madness, where minds and bodies dance in the warped space time.”
