Week 5's mix comes all the way from Montevideo with @pobvio from our  @salviatek familia. Read on for a q&a + tracklist. 

PJ: Tell us about this mix & where you want it to take people.
POBVIO: I made the mix thinking of a network that unites me to your city and expands to the rest of the world; feeling the moment we are going through as humanity, with the virus, the distancing, while social struggles and climate change continue. I would like it to serve as a medicinal talisman to be able to spiritually face the crisis and what is to come, connecting with each other, valuing what we have and are. It also has a lot of music by friends, from the Latin American scene, which questions colonialism a lot.

PJ: What’s quarantine been like in Montevideo?
POBVIO: Here the situation is calm for now, but it happened that the new government imposed a series of laws that violate the rights of the people, giving more power to the police and the military while cutting or raising the prices of basic services. There is a lot of uncertainty.

PJ: Tell us about @Salviatek. Like when did it start and what are you up to with it today?
POBVIO: Salviatek started in 2014 as a party in Montevideo and as a label in 2015. Since then, a scene has grown in the region with groups such as Hiedrah Club de Baile in Argentina, representatives of the south. There are also beautiful scenes in Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. The idea was always to achieve a space of expression for our identities in the music industry.

On Friday the label releases 'Calma' a single by @maga_aa , a young producer from @martiriocolectivo in Chile. It addresses the socio-political situation of the country by the organizing movements of 2019 from within, with a deep sound. Also a strong video of the subject. All proceeds from its sale will go to the Brigada Cascos Rojos, a self-managed brigade that meets the needs of the Chilean people in the context of political movement. We will also do three virtual parties on Hobba.tv and Twitch jjj.

PJ: What's your dream place to visit when this is all over?
POBVIO: Jaja there are so many beautiful places. With my friend from Salviatek, @rasenk, we wanted to do a tour of Brazil jaja, and I also want to get to know your city if I’m able to get a tourist visa. What I like is getting to know places with music, it is a beautiful experience and I am very grateful for it. Having toured South America before the pandemic was nice. I would simply be happy with any place I can visit, but I would like to return to Peru, because everything tastes better there.

Bapari (aka Arielle Baptiste) is a Haitian-American musician, producer and DJ. Bapari DJs the monthly show Puffy on NTS radio and has most recently done releases with Los Angeles-based labels Popcan Records and Mollyhouse Records. In addition to producing for a number of recording artists, Bapari is set to release their debut solo EP this spring. They've headlined Boiler Room LA, played Melting Point & Papi Juice in New York, among countless parties across the USA, and last year served as the tour DJ for Steve Lacy.
