Much like the colourful cobbled streets and lush rolling hills of his hometown of Tbilisi, Georgian-native Gacha Bakradze’s music is characteristically rich, distinct, and seductive. With his previous releases on the iconic Apollo Records praised by Pitchfork and Resident Advisor, Gacha is a stalwart of the Georgian electronic scene. Previously featured on ‘Anjunadeep Explorations 02’ in 2016, Gacha now returns with his upcoming EP - ‘Restless’.

From his nuanced command of subtle arpeggio plucks, to his careful construction of sensuous atmospheres, ‘Restless’ epitomises Gacha’s in-depth musical knowledge and production skills.

Title track ‘Restless’ is a journey through syncopated sixteenths and reverberated jungle sounds, where bongos echo off a grooving sub bass. ‘Image’ is lustrous and bright, accentuating a well-rounded bassline alongside celestial plucks. The Earth Trax remixes introduce a lo-fi aesthetic, taking it back to the old school with wide sampled breaks and 303 synthlines.

The final track, ‘Contactless’, is a Balearic ballad, its melodious arpeggios and dark drones reminiscent of retro 80’s soundtracks, deep dreams, and early-morning walks home. ‘Restless’ is released on both digital and vinyl, Friday, 29th July.

Gacha Bakradze - Restless

I composed this piece algorithmically using a recurrent iterated function system operating on notes, times, instrument assignments, and chords.

I rendered the piece entirely in Csound using a variety of instruments by me, and by other people and adapted by me. The instruments are all direct synthesis, there is no sampling or processing of recorded sound.

The entire piece, including the Csound orchestra, is a C++ program.

Peyote

I like to make music with text. Mostly I use programming languages Haskell and Csound to create electronic music. If you are curious how can it be possible you can check out my library csound-expression which is a computer music framework written in Haskell (https://github.com/spell-music/csound-expression/blob/master/tutorial/Index.md). Also I like wooden flutes and ancient Eastern music (Indian classical music).
