Caribbean rhythm, the man who drinks beer with pepper sauce. In 2018 he was visiting São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro playing on Mareh stand at MECA Festival, it was awesome. World Disco Edits producer, the mexican Fernando makes his mixes on the same way playing some of his own tracks influenced by African, Latin and psychedelic American Funk like James Brown (who kissed the hand of his dad at a concert in Philadelphia mid 70's). A mystical vibe like the warm Caribbean nights between Tulum, Playa and Cancun, where @the-funk-district resides and spreads his music.

SIRIUS XM CHILL: DAYLIFE GUEST MIX w/ ALYX ANDER

It’s the genre that isn’t a genre. The term ‘Balearic’ rather refers to a certain vibe and a specific approach to DJ’ing that somehow encapsulates the sun-drenched and free-spirited feel of Ibiza. Originating from the late 80s when a group of local DJ’s made the island’s cosmopolitan summer holiday clientéle dance to a truly eclectic soundtrack, where soul, funk and acid house records would rub shoulders with artists like Sade, Chris Rea and The Cure – all within the same DJ set.

It was a massive inspiration for some of the key people that went on to shape UK club culture around the same time. Well, truth be told, together with discovering another of the island’s hidden gems, the ecstasy pill. But that’s another story.

This mix is all about the biggest Balearic classics of that period. A number of the most pivotal tunes that were staples in the record bags of pioneer DJ’s like Alfredo Fiorito, Jean-Claude Maury and Leo Mas back then. Three hours of music, starting off very laidback chilling at a secluded beach at midday and then gradually warming up for the wee hours on the dance floor.

Sunshine Soul House - Toytonics Summerjam @AEDEN DJ Set

In the first hour of this show I played a mixed bag of bits I've downloaded reasonably recently. Still having all sorts of computer issues but I've managed to get them on a USB at least. Nice mix of vibes - some quite chilled and balearic stuff building towards a few soulful house numbers. 

I didn't manage to get a guest for hour 2, so I thought why don't I do a mix of my own stuff? So that's what I did - there's 23 of my edits, originals, remixes, rejigs and collabs crammed in! I've seen other people play sets of just their own stuff and honestly never thought I'd be in a position to do so, and you know what? It was a whole lot of fun! From some of my earliest experiments to a new release, it's a festival of Funkier!

With his stripped-down emotional love for music and kind soul, Leipzig-bound beatsmith and all round top geezer Luvless has been steadily cementing his reputation as one of contemporary house music’s finest.

Luvless is known for his work with Rose Records – a label he started with four other friends back in 2011 – and a smattering of appearances on several other labels. slamming down dusty disco edits as well as athomspheric house belters. Since 2017 he’s been focussing on his new project Velours Records. a vinyl outlet for different avenues of the Luvless sound and guest appearances by friends.

His music has been described as sweet, gentle even, but banging at the same time. It sometimes pays homage to the old Kerry days with extra magic dust sprinkled on top.
