With summer on its way we travel to Brazil for our 2nd release this year from a talented producer Alan Becker.  Learning Machines & This is Afrofuturism delivers a deep crafted 808, 909 drums, basslines, with dub sounding stabs, routing in a deep melodic journey for the ultimate experience. Alan shows us why he is an explorer of techno and house, his identity is groovy, authentic, while staying true to the core roots of his sound and soul.

Antwon Faulkner's Minimal Nation remix is the 3rd track. It represents everything and all things Detroit. Taking the original chord a few octaves lower, replacing the drums, adding droning synths, deep melodic chords, a pressing groove with more driving energy, while keeping the melodic deep atmosphere of the original. This musical story comes together well with a vocal explaining the origins of a sound movement that began in Detroit The Techno City. He ends this journey the same way it begins with his signature, structure, breaking down.

In the fall of 1995 five friends joined together to form a company known as Detor Productions. The name, Detor, was formed by a combination of the words Detroit and Toronto, the cities they called home. Various elements were taken from each of these cities' music scenes, along with up and coming talent from around the world, and were combined to create a unique and innovative party experience.
26 years later in April 2021 we lost two of our brothers, Jason Cutsinger, a founding member of Detor and Tim Baker, a regular at our events and long time friend.
On June 12th, 2021 Detor, in collaboration with friends and artists who were prominent at our events during the 90's, invite you to celebrate the lives of our brothers and to Remember.

Hijacked Records Detroit is feeling inspired after hearing new work from one of our favourite allies in techno; Jules Wells. We felt it was our duty to deliver this to the people; three new productions from Jules with a guest remix from our own Antwon Faulkner. Please enjoy – “Silent Orchestra.”

The title track from Jules really set the bar for this release. Jules really understands story telling with music and this track transports you to a time in techno that was both hopeful and beautifully heartbreaking. A persistent chord progression is wrapped in celestial synth harmonies filing up the space all around you and reaching in. That classic clap is underpinned with a touch of acid, creating an edge. At the 4:33 mark an enchanting and haunting sign wave tells a melodic tragedy. Strings come in delicately but wash over you completely. This track is both stunning and devastating.

Next up we have a remix of the title track from Antwon Faulkner; “Silent Orchestra – More Life Remix.” Antwon goes with more of a dance insistent beat but uses many of the original parts juxtaposed a little differently, pitched up and sped up slightly. Antwon drops a hint of sinister in his vocal sample but maintains the uplifting positivity of the original. These are both great versions.

We then have another original piece from Jules Wells titled “External.” Opening with almost tribal reminiscent drum pattern, a dark and cloudy bass end starts filling up the dark corners of your mind before light enters – coaxing you to come along. Prominent string work takes centre stage from 2:15 throughout. It is arresting and analeptic.

We close out this release with another original from Jules Wells called “Electronic Computer.” This track is straight late 80’s / early 90’s electro with today’s sophisticated and matured production techniques, “Electronic Computer” is taking that original electro we know and love and elevating it. Of course there is a funky, kind of defiant attitude to this track but it’s no less emotionally profound. This is a complex story of the future but will sound and feel familiar from your come up.

Jules’ work is beautiful and we are proud to help keep raising the bar on what we can and what we should expect from quality music – 100% original / 100% heart. Trust us – it matters.

Its a new year and we are excited to be starting off with a new release. "Deetroy," produced by young talented artist Patrick Dandoczi based in Ireland. It is a very percussive track with a heavy kick drum, rolling snares, aggressive claps, with a deep harmonic sounding synth. The patterns will continue to change throughout the track with its consistent breakdowns from beginning to end.  The finishing touch is a remix by legendary producer "Samuel L Session" who delivers his very own striped down version. Its a dark atmosphere with echoing chords and a bit of texture. Antwon Faulkner has been in the game since the late 80’s. Born and raised in Detroit, Antwon started hustling mix-tapes at the age of sixteen. With music in his blood, this is truly what he was born to do.

At thirty-five Antwon briefly relocated to Arizona but it wasn’t until late 2008, when he moved to Toronto, did we really get exposed to this next exciting chapter. While people may be more familiar with his DJ moniker, the infamous “Twonz,” in 2009 we got to know a new Antwon, an Antwon re-energized, excited and motivated. His focus shifted from throwing parties and DJing to making music and really honing his craft as a producer. Spending countless hours in the studio, Antwon is careful to avoid listening to others while in his creative zone so the product reflects him and him alone, devoid of any outside influences. With an upgrade in equipment and new pieces of gear, we’ve seen Antwon turn a corner in which he has found his lane and is settling in really nicely. The results are heard in using less loops and playing more of his own keys. While he still regularly releases tracks on his own imprint, “Hijacked Records Detroit,” recent years have seen him spreading the love with multiple releases and remixes on “Restructured Recordings,” “Bulletdodge Records,” “KMS Records,” "Downside UP," "Elephanthaus," "Thoughtless Music," "Motech LTD," "UNT Records," "Frequenza," "Sampled Detroit," and "RF Trax."

In 2018 he received the “TESTIMONIAL RESOLUTION PLAQUE” from the city of Detroit. His contributions in bringing the sound of Detroit to an international audience has caught the attention of many DJs worldwide. Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati, Gene Farris, DJ Bone, Seth Troxler, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug, Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin, DJ Heather, Pete Tong, Paco Osuna, Luigi Madonna, Hector Moralez, Stanny Abram, Stacey Pullen, and many more have played Faulkner’s tracks!
