House. Techno. Brazil. Jazz. Soul. Disco. For more than two decades Amsterdam-based record store and distributor Rush Hour has been serving up exceptional, eclectic music. Launched in 1997 by Antal Heitlager and Christiaan Macdonald (who left the company in 2012), the company has grown to become a key institution in the global music community. As a label Rush Hour has always provided room for fresh, up-and-coming artist like Rednose District and Aardvarck in its early days, as well as Hunee or Interstellar Funk in recent years. In-between they peppered their catalogue with must-have records by legends like Virgo Four, Ron Trent, Anthony “Shake” Shakir and Soichi Terada to name but a few.

Aside from spreading soulful sonic wisdom via their label and it’s many sub-labels, the company also functions as a distributor for all sorts of music and labels such as Music From Memory, Knekelhuis, STROOM 〰, L.I.E.S., and Whities. For Carhartt WIP Radio, Rush Hour co-founder Antal has prepared a mix that takes a mesmeric look at the distribution side of his company, with released and soon-to-be-released tracks from artists such as Garrett, Sabla and Hypnobeat.

Pour ce 5ème volet, on avait à cœur d'inviter Telephones, artiste et producteur norvégien. Il nous gratifie d'un magnifique podcast d'une douceur et d'une pureté infinies ! Voici comment Henning a enregistré ce podcast :

"It was recorded in two parts, in my studio in Berlin. Each part on a Sunday. It contains two tracks that's not avalaible on vinyl, so they've been edited in. Except that it's all wax, mostly LP album tracks. I started a few weeks ago, whenever I had some spare time, to gather and go through records and albums I like, but don't play out.. things I like to listen to but rarely have the chance to. After building up a nice selection, I tried things out in different orders untill I found a rough plan I was happy with.

The idea was to conjure up a feeling of gently waking up, washed up and spaced-out on a shore somewhere, then gently taking you through the morning, or afternoon... I like very much how the first track sounds like some ambient-take on Frankie Knuckles "The Whistle Song", which kinda makes a nice connection to "the night before the day after". Then it's all about eccentric slobbing around at home in your robe, enjoying some calm, relaxing, cozy, mysterious, gently groovy, melancholic chill vibes. 

I really like how moods and atmospheres can travel across genres, so this is a pretty eclectic mix, with some obscure and some totally un-obscure stuff, from Ambient, Jazz, Krautrock, New Age and Pop, to Soul, Funk, Prog Rock, Dub and so on. Assembled with the intention of providing musical hydration to guide you gently through your Sunday, and also allow space for pondering what actually happened in the weekend."
