We bounced our record 'Ao mar' to the moon. Moon bounce, also known as Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communication, is a technique that sends radio wave transmissions from earth to moon. The transmission is then reflected, or bounced, off the surface of the Moon and captured by an Earth-based receiver. Here you can hear the Moon sing our song 'Vazio'.

Ão mixes southern traditional sounds, rhythms and saudade with a poppy-ambient dimension of electronic effects and beats.

Started as a duo, with mesmerizing vocals in Portuguese and English and South-American guitarstyles, they released their self-titled EP in 2020. The music was partly written and recorded as musical pen pals 2000 km apart.

In 2021 Jolan joined with his ambient universe of pedals, guitars, synths and beats/samples on cassettes. After a performance on national television (De Zevende Dag), Bert Peyffers called to join with his distinctive percussion. Since then Ão is a four-member band.

The meaning of “Ão” depends on how you pronounce it: [ɐ͂w̃]. It is something painful, something beautiful, something sad, an expression of wonder or just total nonsense.
