Catch Tapefeed play Room 2 during the Saturday night-Sunday morning section, alongside Freddy K, Rene, Wise, and Adiel for our Birthday party this weekend.

Alessandro Boni and Rick Vayo aka Tapefeed, have been busy forging an undeviating path on the international techno scene since their formation, as committed as ever to evolving their sound. Most recently at fabric, the pair debuted their hybrid live set at the club, and have even turned their hand to curating the whole Room 2 – beyond that have been busy maintaining an established presence in the international electronic music world elsewhere too, having shared the decks with fellow techno stalwarts Jeff Mills, Tommy Four Seven, Paula Temple, Perc, and I Hate Models. With industry interventions and an unmistakable live presence, Tapefeed are expertly scaling and redefining the perimeters of techno.

As DJs and producers, their sound encompasses a relentless array of styles, from powerful broken-beat grooves to distinctive techno and raw percussive sounds. Alongside releases on labels like Mord, Metempsychosis and Abyss, 2021 saw Tapefeed launch their own imprint Inveterate, and have since released an EP on our experimental imprint Houndstooth. The label has been showcasing the duo’s archetypal sound and vision ever since, inviting fellow producers to push boundaries.

INTERROGATION 9:

1. How did your journey into music begin?

-  My father is a lifetime guitarist and musician. I grew up listening to classic/southern rock, and reggae. My first true exposure to techno was “The Fat of the Land” album by The Prodigy. It was mind blowing but I didn’t return to electronic music until 2010 when I moved to Florida from New Jersey and got hooked on trance via Above and Beyond’s timeless Tristate album. I quickly moved through deep and tech house and fell in love with techno

2. What kind of music did you grow up listening to?

-  Сlassic/southern rock, and reggae

3. How did you come up with the sound that appeals to you now? (How have your sound preferences changed over the years)

-  The time during the Covid plandemic definitely had an effect on my taste in techno towards groove-driven, percussive rhythmic defined techno

4. Achievements (radio broadcasts/performances in institutions)

-  I was partner in a club here in St Petersburg, FL called Morph. We were pushing the boundaries in techno bookings here in Florida, bringing names like DJ Stingray, SHDW, Obscure Shape, Perc, Henning Baer, ø phase, Keith Carnal and more

5. Are you currently doing anything related to musical culture? (your community/parties/studio/or maybe work in a vinyl store for example)

-  I just started a collective with some fellow techno DJs in St Petersburg, Florida USA.  We hope to grow a party here with an emphasis on groove driven techno combined with truth seeking, introducing ideas and topics that are occult in nature.
