DJ Resoul, Streetsoul Tribute Mix! DJ Resoul: "I grew up with the Hip Hop Sound of the 80'is. In 1989 British military Radio started the weekly BFBS Dance Show in Berlin, presented by Tim Westwood. It was an incredible Mix of Hip Hop, Swingbeat, 70's Rare Grooves an new British Soul. It was my strongest musical influence at the time. In the early 90ies I saw concerts of Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Raw Stylus und many more in Berlin and also talked to a young UK DJ in 1990 by the name of Gilles Peterson, who played the fresh Talkin Loud sound from the turntables. This is my tribute live mix with the sound of that era to give you a taste of the timeless positive vibe of the time. Feel the Vibe! "

We're back with a really special guest for this edition of MFT. The legendary German digger and DJ, behind the famous compilations Glücklich and Soulgliding: Rainer Trüby!

For the section of the show, I selected a few future jazz classics I discovered recently, including some great spiritual jazz like Kahil El'Zabar Quartet and some Jazzy Hip Hop like the last project by Elzhi & Georgia Anne Muldrow. Enjoy the great Dorothy Ashby’s cover «Soul Vibrations » by Alina Bzhezhinska and the previously extract from the new Kyoto Jazz Sextet album "Watarese"

For the second part Rainer Trüby put together a great mix of deep Jazz with under the radar tracks by Jaco Pastorius, Khan Jamal, Carmen McRae, Morrissey Mullen and Lesette Wilson. You can find here too some forgotten jazz tracks by Özay, Bruno Spoerri and Noriko Miyamoto With Isao Suzuki !

We're blessed to have him down again, he gets the floor moving like no one else.

Highest Place To Go: an AOR Disco Mix by Paul Hillery

“Some for Bohannon,” a celebration and glance at the funky creations of Hamilton Bohannon: a drummer, song writer, and record producer who perfected a "formula of heavy, thudding bass accents and aggressive rhythms". He passed away April 24, 2020. Rest in peace.

His music taught me as a young DJ that disco most certainly does not suck. Here is just a small sample of the dozens and dozens of infectious grooves and dance-floor igniters created by Bohannon.

Rainer Trüby embraces the soul: "To know you, is to love you”. These verses, sung by Syreeta in Stevie Wonders song of the same name, are very well known. In 2008, Rainer Trüby and Danilo Plessow, better known under his MCDE moniker, fit them into a house-chassis layer. A funky bassline and their trademark raw drums push the track forward. Warm synthesizers and a spherical chord melody shyly flirt with each other in the background. A club hit in the year of its release, and its impact on a dancefloor can still be felt today.

 

"When I'm down and feelin 'sad, you always comfort me" sings Syreeta. This is what best describes Rainer Trüby as a DJ. Anyone who attended his club night “Root Down” in Freiburg – he has been running it for over 20 years now – knows: Rainer Trüby always comforts his audience and makes the dancers smile. For years, Rainer Trüby has focused on downbeat, Nujazz, drum’n’bass, broken beats and all kind of soul and disco from US-american, british and brazilian bands, singers and producers. Now he professionally brings together this knowledge of dance music’s roots with House and soulful Techno. Or Salsa and cheesy Pop songs, so-called guilty pleasure records, provided that the night and his audience are of the same mind.

 

As a DJ, Rainer Trüby has been and still is a regular at festivals like Worldwide Festival, founded and curated by Gilles Peterson. Clubs as Watergate or Panoramabar in Berlin trust in his musical repertoire. His main characteristic, regardless of being a DJ or working together with producers like Danilo Plessow aka MCDE ("Rainer Trueby"), Corrado Bucci ("Truccy") and Mario "Marlow" Weise ("Marlow & Trueby"), is: He embraces the soul.
