Metamorphosis

Part I of the duet found on Aotūroa's debut self-titled LP, "Spirit" captures what it means to be human. 
The opening lyrics from the perspective of the Sun give Humanity its place in creation and the second half speak to the relationship with the Earth. Humanity's Spiritual home.

Part II of the duet Brothers released on the debut self-titled Aotūroa release available on 12" Vinyl.

Complimenting Part I: Spirit, "Earth" is inspired by West-African rhythms and speaks to the brotherhood of man on this planet we call home.

Brothers Part II Earth

Inspired by the creation myths of Aotearoa. Rūaumoko (God of Earthquakes and Volcanoes) is restless and creates the waka (canoe) for Maui (Te Wai Pounamu - the South Island of Aotearoa). Maui then calls (sounds of a ponga ihu) his brothers to help him haul up Te Ika A Maui - the North Island.

The four winds are represented by four pūtorino, each given their relative space acousmatically. Known as the four winds of peace that when united in equal measure - in this case by the cyclic force of the pūrerehua - bring peace upon the land.

Tāwhirimātea (The Four Winds Of Peace)

Tangaroa tells the story of the whale Tutarakauika guiding the wahine navigator Waitaha to Aotearoa through Te Moana Nui A Kiwa.
Manipulated stone, water field recordings and Pūtatara render the physical journey into sonic form.

Te Ao Māori uses the topography of an area to compose melodies that become the song of the land. The nguru performed is an interpretation of the topography of Aotearoa from Cape Reinga to Rakiura - Mātai from Te Ika a Maui and Serpentinite from Te Wai Pounamu.

Papatūānuku (Song For The Long White Cloud)

Music written for and inspired by the 2017 Footnote Dance Company's season of NOW (New Original Work) entitled "The Rebel Pink".

This E.P. contains tracks from the full 45min contemporary dance work comprised of three works from new and exciting choreographers.
