Propulse and Zachary Gray do one another a courtesy with this split remix release. Gray’s take on Propulse’s ‘Corium’ includes Bibio-style guitar passages with an electro rhythm through the kaleidoscopic lens of Boards of Canada. Propulse’s refix of Gray’s ‘Palindromes’ takes form in glacial drones and submersive sub-frequencies, sounding something like Oneohtrix Point Never doing Eno. Beauty stuff.

Two Lakes explores the connection between nature and urban life, mixing organic and synthetic sounds to represent the possibility of balance and harmony between the two worlds. It incorporates more orchestral arrangements and instrumentation than past Para Palabras releases, while continuing to rely on sampling and looping to create layered sonic landscapes. These songs are intended to complement listeners' experiences in navigating natural and urban landscapes, soundtracking their exploration of the world around them.

Inspired by the desolate beauty of inclement weather, the city slowing down and the unrelenting force of nature… Frozen Rainfall is about appreciating when you are comfortable and dry, watching as an experience unfolds, and creating music to enhance the deep connection with what surrounds you. 

Habalayon are Haudenosaunee brothers Shawn and Derek Durant. Living in London Ontario, they spend time recording music in their small studio and playing with a handful of local bands ranging in genre from folk, pop, psych and progressive. Habalayon provides the brothers with a way to remain inspired and keep an open mind towards all the possibilities in music.

The Economy - Cross Bores

Cross Bores was recorded over the span of four years. Roughly half of the album was recorded sporadically from 2016-2019 (mostly in London, ON – some in NYC), with the other half being recorded in the thick of the first stretch of the COVID-19 during the spring and summer of 2020. The result is a mix of pre-COVID sounds, meshed with recordings directly inspired by the isolation, uncertainty, and fear that so many of us felt during the year of 2020.

Moat Bells is Chris McInerney, a London, Ontario electronic musician creating vivid sonic works of kaleidoscopic rhythms and atmospherics. 

Invoking experimental, ambient, techno, IDM, shoegaze, and downtempo influences, Moat Bells layers hazy textures steeped in melodies punctuated with pulsatile rhythms. 

Bones of Things EP is Moat Bells’ second outing following the debut full-length album Scroll Through the Park, released in September 2021. Bones of Things is the inaugural release for APDAP.

Forest City Series Vol. 3 features producers either originally from, currently residing in, or formerly of London, Ontario, Canada. They and and their relationship with the city and their influence on my radio program at 94.9 CHRW / Radio Western as A Person Disguised As People were key in shaping the sound and trajectory of the selections within, which are all exclusive to this compilation, as they’re a reflection on what has inspired and excited me most about what’s been happening locally and beyond throughout the past several years. There are a few omissions, of course, as certain people didn’t feel quite ready or comfortable, but there’s always Vol. 4. Thanks for listening.
