Drawing inspiration from science fiction, Black liberation, and the sounds of Detroit, Huey Mnemonic designs a sound that expands Black consciousness and pushes back against the whitewashing in dance music. The Motor City-based producer and sometimes DJ takes his name from Huey P. Newton and the 1995 cyberpunk film Johnny Mnemonic, a cult classic portraying a dystopian future controlled by mega-corporations. Mnemonic recently launched his Subsonic Ebonics label with the Virtuosity EP.

Preluding the Tresor 30 compilation, Huey Mnemonic composes "Transmutation" a glistening and high-spirited shuffling dance-floor rhythm track, on which the Talking Drum meets TR-909 patterns, creating an instrumental bridge between West Africa and Detroit. With "Transmutation", Huey Mnemonic demonstrates that he is undoubtedly at the forefront of a new generation of Detroit techno producers.

Durham wiz-kid Tommy 2000 has been at the forefront of everyone's minds for the last 18 months, after exploding onto the scene with his highly technical and ear-warping productions. The young prodigy has quickly caught the eye of Kettama and Mall Grab with these out-of-this-world productions. Leading to a tripped-out breakbeat/jungle release on Shampain’s very own VSN records and some unreleased madness which will see the world very soon. 

Tommy has been eagerly waiting to showcase his sound in clubs and he will be doing just that this weekend with his first official club set. It is safe to say the future is extremely bright for this humble young man and we look forward to watching his progression.

A few months ago we asked some questions to London-based producer and DJ, Ahadadream, just as he got set to drop the second release on his own label More Time. We discussed his inspirations and mantras, his dream Boiler Room lineup and how he went about producing the tracks for that very second EP. Titled Movements, we described it as a four-track monster brimming with nervous energy, and a hefty release of no-nonsense club music that thrived off the pulsating drums of his own heritage. As well as More Time, Ahad works at Boiler Room and has also spent the last two years running 'Ahadadream Presents', a night showcasing some of the best from the UK, with people like Novelist, DJ Q, Funkystepz and Flava D all having played in the past. An interview didn't seem quite enough of a spotlight for an emerging DJ on the rise, so without much hesitation, we asked if he'd be interested in contributing to our Truancy Volume series in the coming months. Heavily inspired by percussive UK funky rhythms, the mix provides some serious extra energy, drawing for afrobeat and dancehall cuts alongside club anthems from A$AP Ferg and Alex Coulton. Here's what he had to say on the mix.

"An hour full of percussion which has directly influenced my productions and tracks that have played a recurring, vital part in my sets for the last few years. I tried not to just pack this full of new dubs and exclusives but instead create a reflection of myself as an artist which will stand the test of time and stay true to me over a long period of time."
