All conquering UK rap crew Foreign Beggars, who recently teamed up once more with long time collaborator Alix Perez on their Modus EP, call on another of drum & bass's biggest talents to give the EP's title track a 170 refix. Here at Data Transmission we bring you the exclusive premiere of Calyx & Teebee's Modus remix. Retaining the minimal nature of the hip hop original, the half time intro draws you in: Metropolis spits his fire bars before it twists and switches into a techy, bass driven beast. Orifice Vulgatron handles the breakdown, his rapid fire delivery amping you up for round two with more ice cold percussion edits.

Scoping a methodical landscape, Gerra & Stone have begun to take charge of an underground dominion which was already steep with competition. They’ve slowly invaded cyberspace, becoming a focal point for adept drum & bass whilst remaining a talking point across the online platforms. 

With metallic thumps slicing through waiflike samples, even the intro to second track ‘Vengeance’ is intimidating. Twisted breakbeats create a forward motion that pushes you deeper and deeper into its grasp, whilst the track’s title plays out in between bars of finely-tuned anarchy. This is contemporary drum & bass at its finest; the kind its forefather’s dreamt of. Precisely laid out, yet paying homage to its underground roots by being fiercely unapologetic. 

So yet again, it’s time to get with the Program, as this round certainly goes to Gerra & Stone. Their set to catapult themselves to the top this New Year... Whilst leaving no prisoners.

Deep in solitary lockdown, Hamilton has been crafting these next cuts with the meticulous precision. These two tracks present the perfect backdrop for his comeback, presenting him as a veteran artist who effortlessly combines the famed 90s vibe with contemporary production. 

And after the ongoing success of his Schema EP, as well as the huge reception to his release ‘Fire/Be There’, this is a welcome return. 

With pent up aggression and pounding breaks, ‘Feel the Fury’ rolls out first ominously. Cracking high hats and quick-fire percussion adds a layering that helps carry the record’s forward motion. Alongside a bassline that coils, and then lashes out over a plunging drop, you’re thrown between the snap, crack and whip of a hugely intricate composition. Hamilton is back… And he’s here to re-educate you with his unfaltering skillset. 

On the flipside, ‘Track 8’ is an innovative slice of drum & bass which is both fun and drivingly relentless. Bouncing subs, coupled by distorted synths take you through elevated note patterns of gradually building, musical imagery. It’s a steppy riddim, one which doesn’t completely crash on impact but instead is creeping in its intensity. It’s Hamilton at his most diverse, yet again proving the versatility in his craftwork.

With another stunning delivery from Hamilton, 2015 is setting a precedent. One which the producer is sure to ride out into the future.

Dutch musician Baskerville has signed to London's much-loved label MTA. Baskerville is a one-man operation, helmed by Thijs van der Klugt. 

Kicking off with 'Times' it’s dance music made with a distinct touch of class - high quality, layered productions that demonstrate the wealth of experience he has gained from being so deeply involved with music for such a long time. Splicing elements of the underground with melodies, indie, hip-hop, electro and whatever else he is inspired by when he hits the studio. Loose Ends - Save Fabric Compilation

15 years is a long time for anything, but for the lifetime of a record label it’s a particularly lengthy stint. Kasra Mowlavi launched his drum & bass label Critical Music in 2002, and through the years it went from being a passion project of a hobby into a full-time existence of A&R and DJ gig.  

Critical is by now regarded as one of the most boundary-pushing platforms in drum & bass, but given Mowlavi’s background in music that shouldn’t entirely come as a surprise: before he launched Critical, he’d already had experience of working in music at in international artist management companies and at the respected independent imprint Rough Trade Records. 

With Critical’s landmark birthday happening this year, Mowlavi is as busy as he’s ever been: on top of his regular gigs, there’s also an international tour, and a forthcoming boxset featuring some of the label’s key artists from across their history. 

As the label head prepares to launch the landmark ’15 years of Underground Sonics’ album in Room Two tomorrow night, he sent us a premiere of his track 'Phases' forthcoming on the compilation.

Sadly Robert passed away September 30th 2017.
He will be missed dearly.
