Titled as Incognito:

I've been involved with a fair bit within the industry and at large being so within the background. Despite having played alongside international artists, and these days calling some of them close friends, It's not been an interest to be in the public eye. Being productive to me personally is more important than being popular, and being 'incognito' has allowed me to obtain insight with things through people I converse with not knowing who I am - it is fun when not many know you; with being incognito, it allows you to see what is real.

Titled as Duality:

For most part of my career as a DJ, I have been torn between whether or not to put myself out there or remain quiet in the background due to not wanting to really be known. So there are two sides to me; one as a DJ, the other as being a private person - a duality that essentially has defined me.

This specific mix therefore has a duality to it as well with 2 styles of music that I like, complimenting each other to be as one. As the mix transitions, it is a reflection of me through how I'm able to undertake transition - despite there being a duality to me as the mix, I too as the mix can make everything seem as if it's one through letting the duality compliment each other, instead of fighting one another.

This mix doesn't start off slow to progress into something; it starts off differently with an immediate journey, instead of setting the tone for a journey... neither is it perfect, and instead of re-recording it I left it with some imperfections.

I Remember The Future:

I remember several years ago playing music I liked, enjoyed and therefore played. At the time I was told by fellow DJ's that my sound was too dark, due to them at large playing the same music between each other and couldn't appreciate something truly different I was playing. Years later however they started playing the same or similarly inspired music that they themselves termed 'too dark' before, but had become adopters once people started enjoying it.

Therefore one of my tracks in the selection for this mix is called "I Remember The Future", as I feel it apt to the story above; I do remember distinctly, and it had become the future.

Retrospective:

The title above is the last track name and also relevant to the mix for Volume Two. This mix essentially looks back at some music of where things progressed from. I'm not a believer of playing older music as many DJ's; but I say this by meaning mainly older music that has been watered down extensively. There is however plenty of older music that might be even more relevant today, as perhaps it was ahead of it's time or just not purveyed on the appropriate platform. 

So having a view of the retrospective and reviewing the past, allows you a better understanding for music or even context of today.

Tunes4Thursdays - Aphotic Zone - Volume 2

The definition of Aphotic Zone as where within the ocean there is little sunlight. I felt this relevant towards what I push - not an agenda but solely and specifically music. Music that is not for the masses and whereby there will be a little amount of people interested/appreciative, but those people relate to the sound, the feeling, the sense of self that is experienced through what I play.

Aphotic Zone essentially purveys a deeper and darker sense of sound that I've played for several years, with DJ's over the past few years only adopting to this sound, a sound that was noted by these same DJ's as 'too dark' in the past, and now being jumped on the bandwagon that people have caught up to appreciate this sound. So Aphotic Zone specifically doesn't play what many will play, as DJ's in this time feed off one another and originality is not of interest, with only popularity being of interest with them playing the same music which is 'known' to work the crowd - no interest in trying to create or invent themselves essentially, but just adapting to what works or what is relevant.

Aphotic Zone is not for the popular, it is for the educate and only purveys music that is relevant, however with the essence of yet unknown/uncommon.
