LAAG NA LAAG: A MANIFESTO OF NONDUALITY AND COSMIC AWAKENING

“Laag Na Laag,” translated into English as “Layer by Layer,” is not merely a spiritual reflection, but a radical, poetic and philosophical dismantling of the human ego. The lyrics unfold as an alchemical process: the gradual stripping away of the conditioned self, including its masks, fears, and frameworks of time and space, to reveal the indestructible core of consciousness.

1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE PSYCHE
Verses 1 and 2

The song opens with a confrontation with the inner world. The “house of warm currents” and the “walls as hard as stone” portray the body and mind as a fortress that simultaneously protects and imprisons. The lyrics acknowledge the fleeting nature of intellectual insight, expressed in the line “Dissolving once again like a fleeting game,” and the way our identity is merely a transient imprint, “Only a breath upon the glass.” Fear is depicted as a “rusted lock,” an illusion that dissolves only when one finds the courage to enter the crucible of one’s own inner being.

2. THE TRANSCENDENCE OF TIME AND SPACE
Chorus and Prechorus

In the choruses, the perspective shifts from the human to the universal. This is not a conventional ‘ascension’ or ‘descent,’ as expressed in the words “I do not descend, I do not rise.” It is a journey into absolute presence. The ‘source’ unfolds as a Flower of Life that reclaims time. Here, chronological time, Chronos, dissolves and gives way to the timeless moment, Kairos. The boundary between the individual and the universe disappears entirely. The listener and narrator no longer observe the dimensions, but are breathed in and out through them.

3. MYSTICAL PARADOXES AND THE ULTIMATE REALISATION
Bridge and Finale

The bridge forms the philosophical climax of the lyrics, drawing upon the language of great mystics such as Rumi and Meister Eckhart, as well as the teachings of Advaita Vedanta:

• The Absolute Self: “I am the sea that drinks itself / The star into which the darkness sinks.” Subject and object merge into one.

• The Creative Void: Emptiness is not a lifeless vacuum, but the pregnant silence before creation, “the breath before the first measure.”

• The Shattered Eye: The eye breaking into a thousand pieces symbolises the fragmentation of perception required to behold the unity behind all multiplicity.

THE DESTINATION: THE SEEKER IS THE SOUGHT

In the final chorus and outro, the song reaches its resolution. The search comes to an end because the illusion of separation has been pierced. The narrator no longer searches for the light, but becomes the fire that beholds itself. In the closing lines, love is not defined as a romantic or human emotion, but as the fundamental, unshakable foundation of the universe itself, the force that remains when all time, form, and shadow have dissolved.

When writing this song I was picturing the instrumental picking up on a kinda "Maiden-esque" style. I don't think I succeeded in any way... but hey, it's always two different stories what I plan to do and what comes out in the end.

Very grateful for Jan doing the vocals! I didn't really have much of a picture in mind for them, but what he came up with just sounds soo WOW to me!! At some point I was wondering if Ozzy Osbourne had returned to join me for a collab haha. Shoutout and big thanks to him for doing theese amazing vocals.

Last season

Being musician and artist "since ages", the last two decades and all the developments in digital music broadened my interests and activities in doing music actively and passively. Not being shy of any genre (OK, leave off some Punk and Extreme Metal derivates) I engage in composing, arranging, mixing and collaborating. 

Oh, and I do all my artwork and designs as well. And as you may notice I regard AI as a friendly helper.

Have a few looks & listens into my repertoire and eventually gain some insights. I'm always open for collabs if the the interests match ...
