This starts with "The Dream of the Witches' Sabbath" from Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. I distort four tracks of this in various ways and then added a couple of tracks of witches cackling.

I start with Verdi's "The Force of Destiny" and use the electronic forces at my fingertips to turn Destiny's force to my will, twisting and distorting it in several tracks. Then I add a couple of percussive tracks and a couple of tracks of vocal improvisation, somewhat distorted, including nonsense sounds and various phrases relating to the conquest of destiny by my creative will.

It's not surprising that, as the 20th century brought in new ways of scientific thinking, composers would begin to write music relating to science. Gustav Holst composed a series of compositions relating to the known planets. The one dedicated to Neptune was already rather strange. Throw in several tracks of distortion and experimental noise, and perhaps it will take you completely beyond the solar system. In any case, it was a fun experiment.

This piece starts with Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" (itself inspired by Mallarme's poem "The Afternoon of a Faun"). I distorted this in various ways and added forest sounds and vocalizations of various sorts (including laughter), also distorted in various ways. Here is the result.

The Faustian Franks - Oh! My Fist List!

Perhaps one of my favorite musical works from the 19th century is Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre. This dark, yet energetic work was composed close to the same time that Le Fanu's vampire novel, Camilla was published - thus the name I invented for the alleged group performing this. Here, I took four tracks of that and carried out various forms of distortion. I added for drum tracks, originally in waltz time (3/4) and did various distortions to them as well. Here is the result.

Years ago I used to watch "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". The music on the opening and closing credits was a darkly whimsical little number that I would later learn was a composition by 19th-century French composer Charles Gounod called "The Funeral March of a Marionette". In this piece a put together four tracks of this composition and distorted, twisted and transformed them in various ways to get this result.

In an episode of "Hannibal", the infamous cannibal psychiatrist carries out a blood bath to the sound of Richard Strauss II's "Vienna Blood Waltz". I have taken this piece, split it into four tracks, and distorted each of these track in different ways, then recombined them to creat this piece.

The Cannibal Rector's Bloody Ostrich Band - Vein Walls Flushed Down The John

This track starts from Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain", a piece that even in its traditional classical form went through a number of permutations. I made a number of tracks of the piece and distorted them in various ways. Then I took a short section of the piece which was the ringing of bells that occurs close to the end of the original and repeated that part so that it could be a background throughout the whole piece. I used four tracks of the bells distorted in various ways to make that background. The original piece was intended to portray a witches' sabbath or a pagan ritual to a dark Slavic god. It is intense, wild and dark. I intended to portray the same feeling, and feel that I succeeded fairly well at that.

On this site I am sharing my distortions of classical compositions - "de-classifying" them, so to speak. I consider this a kind of non-hostile desecration. (There is much classical music I enjoy, but I despise anything being placed on a pedestal and treated as sacred). Also, I don't copyright any of my soundplay, so feel free to play with it.
