There’s a certain feeling that comes from walking down an empty metropolitan street late at night, in the sticky heat of the summer, steam rising from the potholes and the normal noises of the city not too far off in the distance. You might feel comfortable in your direction or you might feel the danger of the unknown, but you feel something. The unpredictability of darkness has that kind of effect, a fleeting feeling rarely captured outside of the moment, a moment that is recreated meticulously in the music of A+B.
 
Co-founders Aaron Richman and Baxter Williams exist as opposite sides of the same coin, having met by chance while working on a project under the guise of Julian Casablancas, a famed creature of the New York City nightscape. Having taken his tutelage to heart, the two began pursuing sounds unique to their surroundings - something at once modern and retro, scratching at the futuristic while retaining the timeless. Following their inspiration from Los Angeles to Nashville, the two have been hard at work on putting together music unlike anything this city is used to. Relying on machinistic drum programming only to collide it with live instruments and raw vocals, the music of A+B draws you into a world you might not have known you wanted to explore. It’s an unpredictable one, their music reveling in sharp turns and extended grooves in equal measure.
There’s not much to compare it to, as there’s not much else like it. At times mysterious and introspective, at times sultry and shimmering, the music of A+B is a delicate puzzle that rewards each time the pieces begin to interlock. The intrigue of the mission is what tantalizes the band, knowing that the more layers they add, the more they draw the listener into a maze that they will never want to leave.
