Arcturus or alpha Bootis is the fourth brightest star in the sky. Arcturus is a red giant 36.7 light-years distant and about 110 times more luminous than the Sun. Its proper motion is larger than that of any first magnitude star except alpha Centauri. Its name is derived from the Greek word Arktouros, meaning "guardian of the bear". In mythology, Zeus placed the star in the sky to protect Callisto and Arcas from Hera’s jealousy. In other cultures, the star is also known as Aramec, Azimech, Alramih and Haris-el-sema ("the keeper of heaven"). It is the zenith star in Hawaii. Prehistoric Polynesian sailors called it Hokulea, or the "Star of Joy." Ancient Greeks believed the star to portend tempestuous weather. The Chinese call it Da Jiao ("great horn"), while Inuit astronomers call the star "the Old Man".

Apobothra - Arcturus [Freebie]

epsilon Bootis, Izar ("veil") or Pulcherrima (“loveliest”), is a binary star composed of a bright orange giant and a main sequence star. Its other traditional names are Mirak ("the loins") and Mizar. The star system can be viewed with the unaided eye at night, but resolving the pair with a small telescope is challenging; an aperture of 76 mm (3.0 in) or greater is required.

eta Bootis, also known as Saak and Muphrid, is Arcturus’ first neighbour, a spectroscopic binary that has a notable excess of elements heavier than hydrogen. Since 1943, the spectrum of this star has served as one of the stable anchor points by which other stars are classified. The name Muphrid is from the Arabic mufrid ar-rāmiħ "the (single) one of the lancer". In Chinese, 右攝提 (Yòu Niè Dī), meaning "the Right Conductor", refers to an asterism consisting of Eta Boötis, Tau Boötis and Upsilon Boötis. Consequently, Eta Boötis itself is known as 右攝提一 (Yòu Niè Dī yī, English: the First Star of the Right Conductor). In the catalogue of stars in the Calendarium of Al Achsasi al Mouakket, this star was designated Ramih al Ramih (رمح الرامح - rumḥ al rāmiḥ), which was translated into Latin as Lancea Lanceator, possibly meaning the lance of the lancer.

‘The Hidden Reality’ is my new ambient-oriented mix series.

A couple of years ago I read the book written by a US physicist Brian Greene which has the same title. This book describes a number of physics’ theories, which assume that our Universe is not the only one existing. These theories have a lot of evidences that there are a plenty of other universes and each theory has its own approach to this question.

I was impressed as never been before while reading to this book. I can compare it only with an impression I’ve got when listening to the most inspiring ambient music, which I intend to use in this series.

I will make each next part quite rare, I think something like once a year or maybe a bit more often. Maybe even with some guest mixes in the future.

So, this is the first part of this series.

The Hidden Reality podcast 01 - Apobothra

gamma Bootis or Seginus, is a Delta Scuti type variable star with an apparent magnitude between 3.02 and 3.07. Seginus is approximately 85 light years away from Earth and belongs to the spectral class A7III. The name Seginus resulted from Latinization of an Arabic form of the Greek name of the constellation of Boötes (Theguius).

Mu Boötis (μ Boo, μ Boötis) is a triple star system in the constellation Boötes. It has the traditional name Alkalurops (also Inkalunis, Icalurus, Clava, and Venabulum), and the Flamsteed designation 51 Boötis. Mu Boötis is approximately 121 light-years from Earth.
The primary component, μ¹ Boötis, is a yellow-white F-type subgiant with an apparent magnitude of +4.31.
Separated from the primary by 108 arcseconds in the sky is the binary star μ² Boötis, which has a combined spectral type of G1V and a combined brightness of +6.51 magnitudes. The components of μ² Boötis have apparent magnitudes of +7.2 and +7.8 and are separated by 2.2 arcseconds. They complete one orbit about their common centre of mass every 260 years.

Iota Boötis (ι Boo, ι Boötis) is a star system in the constellation Boötes. It has the traditional name Asellus Secundus (Latin for "second donkey colt") and the Flamsteed designation 21 Boötis.
This star, along with the other Aselli (θ Boo and κ Boo) and λ Boo, were Al Aulād al Dhiʼbah (al aulād al dhiʼb), "the Whelps of the Hyenas"
The primary component, Iota Boötis A, a spectroscopic binary, is a white A-type main sequence dwarf with a mean apparent magnitude of +4.75. It is classified as a Delta Scuti type variable star and its brightness varies from magnitude +4.73 to +4.78. The companion, Iota Boötis B, is a magnitude +8.27 star belonging to spectral class A2.

Apobothra - Asellus Secundus

‘The Sculptor Wall’ is a real astronomical term. It is a wall-shaped superstructure of galaxies relatively near to the Milky Way, about 400 million light-years from Earth. The structure sweeps through the southern skies across nearly a billion light years of space. It is filled with recently discovered intergalactic gas. This discovery is the strongest evidence yet that the “missing matter” (which is different from “dark matter”) in the nearby Universe is located in an enormous web of hot, diffuse gas.

The Sculptor Wall [Spaceal Orbeats - In Search for an Explanation LP]

Imagine a highly advanced civilization, which is located somewhere in the Universe. Any technological civilization is, in fact, increasing its energy consumption with time, as humanity does. So, it needs a good source of energy.
All the planets have finite amount of energy sources such as fossil and nuclear fuels. Thus, a civilization has to move out from its parent planet to collect energy directly from a star or a star system. It will construct a huge amount of solar arrays which would be capable to transmit energy back to the planet. Eventually, the parent star might be entirely enclosed by a cloud of satellites, allowing the civilization to make use of almost all the energy produced by the star.
Such hypothetical structure is called Dyson Sphere. It is named after U.S. physicist and mathematician Freeman Dyson, who was the first to propose a possibility of existence of such objects.
There are some variations of a Dyson Sphere. A cloud of satellites depicted above is one example, sometimes called Dyson swarm or Dyson ring. It is the closest approximation to the initial Dyson’s idea. Dyson swarm consists of huge amount of constructs, each with an independent orbit. Each satellite would be stable on its own and capable of beaming its energy back to the planet.
Another example, most often depicted in fiction, is Dyson shell. This is a structure entirely enclosing its parent star. Such structure would completely absorb the emission of the central star, making the host civilization capable of using 100% of its energy output. It would also provide the host with an immense habitable zone (if the surface could be made habitable). Although Dyson shell has these advantages it is probably unfeasible, according to Dyson himself.
Such objects are now looked for as their existence could be a sign of extraterrestrial life, though none of them have been found yet.

Good Looking mixtape

Hi Everyone,
Here is the mix consisting of the tunes from the drum'n'bass sub-genre called tech-step, that was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s.

As you might have heard, the leading hypothesis of the formation of our moon is the collision of young Earth with a Mars-sized planet called Theia. And what's interesting, life on Earth would be very different from what it is now if there were no Moon. So if this hypothesis is proven to be correct, we should be thankful to this world for the life as we know it here on Earth.

Likewise, techstep drum'n'bass has played a major role in my life, since if I build up a reverse chain of events, it turns out that only because of this genre I had met quite a few persons, who then became my best friends.
And apart from everything else, this sub-genre played also a substantial role in building up my musical tastes, albeit the music which I now produce and play in the mixes quite differs from it.

Okay, this is a bit of a sidenote about why I've chosen this title for the mix.

Hi Everyone and welcome to The Centre of Nothingness series part 8.

About a week ago we got a very sad piece of news stating that Marcus Kaye a.k.a. Trevino, also known on the drum'n'bass scene as Marcus Intalex, had passed away.

He had made a long career on the dnb scene and was a very respected artist. In recent years he pursued the work on techno music under the pseudonym Trevino and made some very exceptional tunes, some of which you might have heard in this series of mixes.

Hope his music won't be forgotten for a long time.

Oldschool and Deep Dubstep Mix

Hi Everyone,

My new mix is a tribute to one of my favourite electronic musicians, Burial.

The title of this mix is not directly associated with what I think of Burial's music, but rather it's a telltale of how I've been feeling for the last couple of months. Burial's music has been helping me through this time, and I've finally managed to discern my favourite tracks from Burial's discography and decided to record this mix.

Your Future is Looking Grim (Burial Tribute)

Aleksei Klimkin (Apobothra) is a Moscow based electronic music producer who has been inspired by such musicians as The Future Sound of London, Autechre, Biosphere, Brian Eno, Basic Channel / Rhythm & Sound, DeepChord / Echospace, ASC / Mindpsan, bvdub, Fluxion, Quantec, Fingers In The Noise and others. 
Starting with drum&bass in 2006 his tastes have gradually shifted to deeper electronic music such as dub techno, deep techno and ambient. Many of his tracks have been supported by some big names on the scene. 
His first release with Apobothra alias was released on Spaceal Orbeats label in the end of 2013 and simultaneously became his first album. It is called ‘In Search for an Explanation’ and the production style there is based on author’s intoxication by science and particularly by astrophysics.
In real life "Apobothra" is an astronomical term whose meaning is quite similar to "Apogee", but while Apogee is the point of greatest distance between the Earth and its orbiting object, Apobothra is the furthermost point on the Black Hole orbit.
