MINDFRAME 004: Arsonist Recorder [LIVE] + SMPL SMPL [LIVE]

Lord Jalapeños is back on the air with his sophisticated live-session, recorded especially for our podcast. As usual, we asked him a few questions.

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?

My drum teacher (and partner in crime when we used to play percussion together in his band), but also each musicians in my latest black metal/hardcore band - especially on the atmosphere side of a music - were artists that’ve teached me music but obviously shaped my taste. If we dive into Electro, I must talk about Dopplereffekt! Listening to this genre for the first time with their album "Gesamtkunstwerk" felt like a big slap in the face. The second slap came with François Dillinger’s album "Chasing The Red" : his vision of music and composing is unique, which only can leads to admiration and inspiration.

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

Mainly collabs! We’ve already began to work on ideas with François Dillinger, Obzerv and Cybereign. But the collab family is never big enough, so names like Bohll, Jensen Interceptor, Petr Drokov might also join the party as well :). Speaking about releases, I’m more than thrilled to announce that my first vinyl LP, "Loser Machine », will be released this summer on Science Cult. Also, you’ll see some Leopard appearing on International Chrome later this year. So yeah, I feel like a kid. I’ll give you more infos soon.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

Brokntoys, LDI Records, Micron Audio (please release more stuffs), Trust, Science Cult, are definitely labels to follow : they all share the envy of stretching the Electro sounds boundaries. But also, in a completely different style, Vastes Choses is a label to follow. They’ve this recognizable old and gritty tape type of sounds, heavily distorted, with a lot of rhythmic section inspired by Electro and Techno. About artists, the female Electro scene is coming up hard, rapidly growing up strong names : between Ekata, Imogen, Ivna J, Liza Aikin, Nastia Y, these artists needs full attention. But don’t forget to also keep your attention on DJ Stingray, Issu, My Boyfriend, R325, Tadan. Just to name a few.

4. What inspires you now to create music?

I enjoy more and more recording random stuffs with my phone (like the cheap version of field recording) : I’ve got sounds like the ring of a doorbell, the subway noise, a bunch of people talking, and I like to reshape them into something that will eventually leads me to a rhythm or a melodic part, and so on. What inspires me the most tho is how I feel at the moment (might sounds cheesy, sorry). Whether I’m feeling good or bad, it always feels natural to express myself through music. Even if it can takes from 1 up to 9 hours, I’ll simply stand behind my machines, turning knobs and pressing keys, until I’ve finished the track. It really has a catharsis effect on me.

Kim Cosmik (@kimcosmik)is a DJ and producer who started her career back in the 90s playing for festivals such as Sprial Tribe and Bedlam, and several clubs across Europe. She was among the first women to perform at London's Knowledge Club and at the Miami music festival. So far, she's released her own music on Void Records, 20:20 Vision, and Matador among others. She currently holds residencies at Threads Radio, Aaja Radio, and Techno Club Net, while running her own event, Hybrid, as long as being the head of Cybersoul, her very own label. Here is a podcast that thrives on its intensity and elegance. Enjoy it!

Después de vivir toda su vida en Mallorca, decide moverse a Barcelona en 2017 donde empieza a nutrirse de la escena underground y forja una obsesión por los vinilos y los sintetizadores. En poco tiempo pasa a ser una figura activa del panorama Electro nacional, lanzando tracks en sellos como Gente Seria Viste Chándal, Electroclub Recordings, entre otros, además de pasear maleta por salas míticas de la ciudad condal como Nitsa, Laut o Macarena.

Sven Van Daele a.k.a "AETHER"- a true icon of the Belgian underground he has been a solid underground force since 1996 mainly in cities as Gent & Brussels and occasionally played places as Sao Paulo, Moscow, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid, France, Poland & Goa. Since 2019 he is running a new party concept & label Dance Mekanik aimed at retrofuturistic sounds in the lower BPM range. His productions (solo or in collab with eg Rushkeeper) on labels as New York Haunted & Electric Music Foundation are mainly hardware based and are aimed on experiment, jamming with machines & daring to make mistakes.

Bulgarian dark mastermind MANASYt/Sam Lowry (Petar Tassev) has been rocking his own brand of  Nurolektro since 2003. 

He’s responsible for a vast array of menacing titles on labels such as Bunker, Touchin' Bass, Kommando 6, Musar and about 40 other labels worldwide. 

An artist that couldn’t care less about trends nor hypes, and whose main driving force is that authentic passion for the genre.

Some of his tunes resemble a future horror movie soundtrack, others a visit to a mental clinic but most sound like what exactly hostile aliens would listen to while attacking Earth.

Currently based in Xiamen, China.
