Kartell - Minimum Move

A label based in Shanghai, China, might be an unlikely place to source quality-strewn, unlikely and eclectic electronic music, but in saying that, there's nothing too obvious about the merits of the OD Music Group; a label that's tasted some success recently thanks to their shrewd A&R'ing. Chris Gresswell's recent bass/house hybrid for the label was testament to the latter fact, while on their latest release, Persian Empire rubs shoulders with the returning Ariel Camusso for an EP that's positively dripping in nuanced, colourful vibes.

I remember making this track whilst living with my brother in a council flat in Barking. I just remember listen to it on repeat until the early hours of the morning. At the time, I still working hard in my job but wasn't making much progress. A few months later, that changed and things really started to take off for me.

After his stellar Nunchi EP via Moodmusic label last year, ED ED is back at it again with his standout follow up, the Namaimo EP.

ED ED aka Edmond Weinfeld is the Berlin based on OFF recordings releasing producer. He's also had a big single on Defected’s DFTD last year and also A&Rs for the Berlin-based Moodmusic label.  Featured on his Namaimo release are four cuts of absorbing house music which marks his most impressive work to date. His ‘Starsign’ track marries deep hitting drums with explosive melodies, blasts of frazzled synths, and plenty of colorful intergalactic soul.

Premiere: ED ED - Starsign (Original Mix)

ED ED is Edmond Weinfeld, a Berlin based producer who has also released on OFF, had a big single on Defected’s DFTD last year and also A&Rs for the Moodmusic  label. His music roams from deep house to techno and back again and he places great emphasis on clean lines, vibrant bass and a cool sense of energy, as this new and mature musical work proves.

After the stellar Nunchi EP on the Moodmusic label last year, the ever more acclaimed ED ED is now back with his standout follow up, the Namaimo EP. Up first is the tantalising title track, a broody seven minute opus defined by its big bold bass strokes. Slick percussion and rolling kicks form the groove down below, but that bass is what sticks out, as well as some lithe and sci-fi synths that perform acrobatics up top.

The striking ‘Sentinel’ is our Debut Transmission today and proves ED ED can programme tight, corrugated drum lines and crisp, snapping perc that makes you want to dance a physical dance, and when the tender male vocals come in you really are carried away to a better place. Last but not least, ‘Starsign’ marries deep house drums with explosive and starry melodies, big blasts of frazzled synth and plenty of colourful intergalactic soul. It’s a real head turner, for sure.

This EP is a fine statement of intent and is one that will move DJs and dancers in emotive ways.

R$N's Parisian siblings Les Yeux Orange make their debut release on their new label. Portland's Wav Fuzz open the account with this gloriously beautiful, respectful take on early 90s house. Striding calmly and softly from an ambient dream state intro and sprinkles of dubby six-strings into a multi-layered builder, bubbling away with retro female vox samples, confident crashes, heritage drum fills and modulating synth riffs which just take off and fly. Porta Alpina is the follow up to Lex, the brilliant debut EP from Transmission Collective. Featuring two original tracks from one third of the collective, Maru, along with remixes from the other two thirds, Kahwe and Wolf Cub, it further showcases the trio’s forward thinking, soulful take on house music.

Porta combines a shimmering melody with a contemporary take on old school house percussion, wound together beautifully around an infectious vocal sample – all you have to do is say yes. Second track Alpina is another slick piece of deep, dancefloor friendly house music, effortlessly blending dreamy vocal snippets with punchy percussion and some killer low end to create an absolute bomb.

On remix duties are label co-chiefs Kahwe and Wolf Cub, who remix Porta and Alpina respectively. Kahwe highlights the peak-time potential of Porta with his remix, kicking the percussion up a notch and twisting the vocal sample in the brilliant breakdown. Meanwhile Wolf Cub takes things deeper with his take on Alpina, stripping it bare before the brooding bass stabs kick back in to turn the track into a serious late night jam.
