Shirk - Nemesis

A short composition featuring two of my favourite themes which, when combined, produce a third greater than the sum of its parts. 

Last year, in Autumn, I travelled for the first time in my life to visit the famous masked lady who lives surrounded by the waters of the Adriatic. I was instantly smitten by her charms and, despite the sometimes rainy weather, I became often quite literally lost in her arms. 

Leaving was hard; as the Bard said of such goodbyes “Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it be morrow” though I, of course, was never sure where or when - or even if - I would ever find the “morrow”. Memories of our time together permeates much of my music with some compositions such as “L'Orologia e le Sottoportago” released shortly after my return being direct statements of my love and longing.

As is this; as winter takes a firmer grip on my days, I can only imagine how the masked lady would look with 	a dusting of snow, the streets and narrow alleys hushed and silent, the cafés closed, the music silenced, and, as always, such wandering through my memories and imagination, results in a short, somewhat melancholic theme which I hope, ignites a small flame of joy for you in these dark winter days. ❤️ॐ
