It started with an emaciated fox...

Driving to work on a blank early March morning that promised more winter than spring, I passed a sickly thin fox stricken with fear against the highway guardrail as semis and Volvos sped past. It couldn’t have long to live.  As I, too, flew by the doomed creature, my phone chimed. I looked away and drove to work.

I’d like to say I grew uncustomarily aware of the impending savagery we all know is just over the horizon.  That I fought the terror as it churned and pushed its Stygian head through the primordial muck of my morning brain.  That I longed to slip back into the quotidian worries of laundry stains and lunch choices; to distract myself with pharmacy and alcohol long enough to forget what we all know, deep in our viscera, will end with a ghastly, Grand Guignol bloodletting...but I didn’t. I just went to my job and worked.

Months later. I begin playing the first track on Ma Nat’s debut foray into the netherworld of modern beatsomnia. I believe I was heating a burrito in the microwave.  The sound literally tore at me, thrashed me, unmoored me. I felt an unfamiliarity with my kitchen, recoiling from the obscene shape of my food, unable to wield my cutlery. I fell from grace...

And then I knew.

Ma Nat, a scruffy ensemble with bright eyes and attractive smiles belying the hellscape of their lost souls, had pierced the veil for me, had dropped the scales from my eyes.

Ma Nat is that emaciated fox and they’re here to provide the soundtrack to our dystopia. Enjoy!
