Recently, I played through the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy on Steam and thoroughly enjoyed the games. So, here is my small homage to that. Since the individual sources are fairly short this is sort of like a medley of a few different sources. Starts off with the Trial theme, that very clumsily goes into the Inform the Truth theme. After that I go into the Objection theme which then follows into the Cornered theme. Next up I go into the light Examination theme then into the fast Examination theme before ending out on a solo piano of the first theme. Don't worry it sounds a lot longer than it actually is.


I tried to make the track a bit like how an actual trial plays out in the game. That is it starts off promising enough, then you get sucker punched with some bad news. Then you find some weakness and try to exploit it only to find out that you opened up an even larger can of worms. However, as things progress you go on the attack more and more before finally getting to the bottom of things through the ultimate discourse cross-examination. At least that is the silly idea going on here.


I also made use of some samples from the games to help with that. I dunno, this was pretty fun honestly.

Objection

Proudly presenting From Earth to Planet Omega!

Originally this piece was supposed to be for a contest that was meant to create a track that sounded more inline with Retro Sci-Fi movies. However, it ended up sounding too modern for that and at that point I decided to simply run with it. The result is this monstrosity. 

As the title suggests try to envision taking off from Earth and then travel to a planet named Omega. What happens after take off is merely up to the imagination and hopefully the track guides the thoughts to some degree.

Poly-Ana's Pact  [Ploy-Ana] - APZX

A remix of the Undefeated Heart theme from FFTA. Rather fun bit of music.

Of Judges And Jagds

A remix of Plok's Beach theme. Honestly, the game has some simply great music. The main problem is that trying to translate it from the original time signatures to something a bit more workable is kind of irksome.

On The Way To The Coast

Here is a rather odd one. Tin Tin on the Moon's Main Theme for the C64. Here, I tried to really bring out the funk aspect of it. Juicy pad throughout laying down that texture. A nice vibrant lead, juicy bass, and enough epiano to shake a stick at.

A Stroll To The Pad

This is a combo remix. It starts off with Chrome Gadget and then I transition to the much slower and foreboding Underwater Depths track. The idea was to sort of be like one is sinking into the depths below.

Widget Synthesis

One day wondering in the forest, as one does, a chance encounter occurs. There is a cradle up on a tree top. There is no explanation for why, it is just there. Soon enough a gust of wind blows. For inexplicable reasons sounds are heard as the cradle rocks it appears as if the bough is going to break. But there is little worry that the cradle will fall with the bough because the sounds cause a whirlwind that spins the world around. Begging the question if the cradle and bough falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, did it actually occur?

The 8th

Source is Suikoden 2's Gothic Neclord with a minor bonus entrance of a certain movie theme at the very end.

To that end I tried for a bit of a Pystrance interpretation of it. It didn't turn out too Psytrancey, but it sure is fun a source at any rate. For the Halloweeny aspect what I tried for here was more of a whimsically halloweeny approach. So, it is a little over the top with the organ and some of the other sound selections.

Psy - Nec Gothic

As is hopefully evident from the name this is a remix of Metroid's Brinstar done in a sort of EDM-ish way. Not too strictly all that EDM-ish though. There is a kick with a decent bit of bounce to it. But I did really try and keep the original tension from original here. Who knows exactly what it is. But I do know that it is something.

Strutting In Brinstar

For an antagonist, Von Bolt's theme may take a minute to get rolling but when it does? It is pure glory. With that said this is a straight forward take on it. Its a bit aggressive, but that is kind of the point. Its pushed a bit too hard, but that is kind of the point. Long live the leader of the Black Hole.

Never played Gaiares, but this was a fun little one to do a simple little remix of.

Mellinox

This remix is a long time coming to put it mildly. This is part of a much larger project. OCRemix's Final Fantasy VIII: SeeD's of Pandora https://ff8.ocremix.org/

I have always liked the airship themes in FFVII and FFVIII. Not too long ago I got the chance to take a stab at remixing it. And that is where this track came into existence. It is probably the single biggest remix I have ever attempted and is on one hand a reasonably straight forward take on the theme, but on the other hand it is something else entirely.

Theme Of The White Hole Prevention Agency

The main riff in this is actually awesome. Understated, happy, and yet melancholic. I did have to write some chords underneath the original lead line that I felt fit well enough. Quite fun.

Kingdafreud

This is a remix of OutRun's Passing Breeze. This is a track that I have always enjoyed and I really do not need any particular reason to fire up the DAW and have a play with it. However, this particular genesis of this track comes because it is the last track that I will submit to a friendly video game music remix competition I used to compete in. 

I tried to do something that was a bit 80s inspired because you know OutRun...it just fits the...vibe. But I didn't want it to go so far into the 80s as to be synthwave territory. As a result this remix has some 80s/synthwave influence, but ultimately is really more about a chilled laid back listening experience. Reminiscing of days gone by, going with the flow, and even thinking back a bit on times there weren't quite as remembered. 

At first glance it may seem like this is a pretty samey cover of the track, what with replacing the piano with a polysynth instead and just using a simple synth lead. In fairness that isn't entirely untrue and it is a fairly 1:1 remix. But a closer listen will reveal that there were a lot of subtle changes throughout. I tried to keep it more upbeat and energetic in the beginning, in the middle I went more ambient & pretty, but towards the end I really tried to shift it away from those rose tinted glasses to something more melancholic yet with just a twinge of those tinted glasses because it is too hard to bring myself to not let the vibrancy of the track come out. I do end it on a very pretty chord though, at least I think it is pretty.

Annals Of Neon - APZX

Yes, yes, I know I have track titled "Cyber Mower" already. However, this is "Cyber Mower v2". What is the difference? Well other than some small changes mix wise the composition has a refocused middle, and that is why the track is v2 because it is new and improved.

Lithios' Overture

This track came to be one day because I decided to see if I could indeed get Poly-Ana to make Trance. It turns out that it is possible to get that synth to do just about anything. 

For the most part it is Poly-Ana. The drums & percs and noise sweeps aren't. Props to Admiral Quality for this fantastic synth.

APZX - Polyframatic

Another cover because yeah I'm still trying to figure out what I can and can't do with my mixer and synths. Initially going in I thought this was going to be more challenging but it really turned out to be pretty simple, and is basically the Roland D-110. I really need to get a Roland Integra 7.

Again just me trying to understand my setup more.

PLOK - Beach (ZX Cover)

Man this is such a fun track! This just gets you pumped to want to do battle. 

So, this is basically just a couple of ROMplers going at it with some support provided by traditional synths and a small bit of FM for a lovely synth trumpet.

FF VI - Battle Theme (ZX Cover)

So, I did this basically off the cuff. I was just messing around with my SH-201 and made a bass patch with my modular that I thought sounded fairly gnarly. This quickly grew out of those two sounds. Always fun!

This is for KVR's OSC. The only thing used is U-He's Diva. The perc sounds, snyth sounds, etc . . . all Diva. Minimal processing used as well.

Galastra - APZX

Ooo yes a Trancey take on the Theme of Love from FFIV. Such a pretty theme and honestly when I heard that main lead line I just could not resist putting a Supersaw under it in some fashion.

Devotion to the Motif

Inspired by an odd confluence of events this one was. I got the idea for it after reading an interview with Jean Michel Jarre and the concept of using only monophonic sounds and layering them in such a way to create chords. I did not exactly adhere to that in the full track. However, except for four sounds the fact is every sound is played monophonically. The other major inspiration of this came from the Google doodle of Dr. Robert Moog's Minimoog synth. Not entirely sure how those two came to inspire this, but hey weirder stuff has happened. 

A big thank you must be given to Admiral Quality and the fantastic soft synth Poly-Ana. This entire track is just a whole bunch of Poly-Ana.

Amalgamize - APZX

Well this is a bit more of Remix of a Remix actually. Dragor did the original rendition in FL. Then I went back and redid it and came out with this. It isn't a perfect rendition of the main lead in terms of timbre and actual sound, nor actual sequence. However, it is pretty close. Finally with that having all be said thanks to Adam Szabo for making it and Dragor for doing his rendition because without either this track would haven't come to fruition.

Well, this one is a bit near to my heart. At least the original is. Such a great piece of music by Howard Blake for The Snowman. 
At any rate this is just a reimagining of the piece into Trance. This shouldn't be a mind blowing piece or such. Just something to listen to.

Howard Blake - Walking in the Air (APZX Trance Mix)

When I began making music, the only genre that made sense to me was Trance. While I feel that first and foremost Trance is not dead, it sure has changed a lot since its inception. Sadly, I have ventured away from the genre as I explore others, but I have every intention to return to it. I have a notion about what Trance should be as it has evolved. However, as I try to encapsulate this belief I feel that I may never do so. However, if you like my music then I encourage you to start following. I may surprise you.
