Partly distant BPM’s orbit the subconscious memory; how does one move singularly, idiosyncratically, when the tempo becomes a static force? Washed over by violent algorithmic nudges that generate new content for a niche market hellscape, compulsive LED scrolling habits, and “pristine” maximalism In composition and fidelity, where does one find a stream to mirror back their image these days? Perhaps what stares back is being avoided for a reason.

NAPE hails from London, England and offers 8 crucially crude recordings for Psychic Liberation under the title “TEN TONNE ANGEL”. Dusty headbanger loops filtered through nebulous memories of wall-flowery, inebriated party listening. Which party? Which songs? Harder to identify yet, it all feels like a blur at this point. Think of a sweet spot somewhere between the minimalist electro leanings of Frak at their best, the urgency and tactility of early Unit Moebius, and the more recent live documentation of tour sets by Enrique and Nick Klein. NAPE continues a trajectory of challenging music for a club setting, even though most don’t understand what the challenge really is.

Plafond enters its second decade with Cucina Povera and Haron fusing the folkloric and futurist. Maria Rossi and Haron Aumaj (real names) honour musical cinematism on ‘Riffittelyä’, which slowly unfolds during a twenty-two minute trail of exploration, angst and redemption. Meddling voices pinch through an aural mist, Kubrickesque strings impend and cathedral organs relevate. Most striking is the compatibility of Rossi’s tangibility and Aumaj’s computerisation, seamlessly forming a renewed dynamic, as granular as it is loose in texture.

During this unique first collaboration it can be quickly forgotten both artists have highly distinctive styles. We are reminded of these singularities on the other half of the record, featuring two solo works, both rich yet contrasting in their colour and emotion. On ‘Maandag, Spiegeldag’, Aumaj sketches in orange chromatics, a featherweight composition that feels far away from the greyscale fragility that Rossi portrays on ‘Ajatus’. Showcasing two minimalist artists catapulted by their stunning debut albums, this sixth Plafond keeps the listener in constant awe, pointing us to the endless potential of spontaneity.

Comes in Pantone printed outer sleeve with deep red and yellow topped with a silk screened black and a soft pink inner sleeve, wrapped in a dreamy blue Obi-strip printed with white and black, by the BAKK Fuzz Factory.

‘Dekalb Works’ is the collaborative project of Austin Peru (Vision Fortune) & Daniel Creahan (Sweat Equity / Alien D). Born out of a shared deep sociological interest of dialects and cultural frameworks, and the effects these have on meaning within modes of speech, the pair here delve into the dialects of their own beginnings, mining US/British regional accents and weaving these situational scenes through a textured, intentionally disjointed, hand made soundscape of bass tension and fleeting, glistening melody – adding additional layers of emotion and meaning to everyday observations of language.

‘Duologue’ intends to blur the lines between perceived and constructed reality, occupying a gauzy, dreamlike space shared by the likes of Hype Williams & James Ferraro, where foggy sonars & deep subs provide the backbone to both eccentric and mundane ephemeral flutters of dialect.

‘Duologue’ revels in its variance of linguistic stylings – from the deep US south religious lament of ‘of a’ hovering above an ambience of Zither & Bells, to the doom laden sax skronk and vocal stutter of ‘with’, to the creeping stripped micro dub of ‘only’ which allows the familiar hue of the British news reader and typical West Midlands dialectical moments to clash – aptly documenting of an impending collision.

This is certainly one for heads into all things slow & spacious - for sure there’s a lot to digest and get lost in here across the records quite intentionally intoxicating ark, where touch points and historical nods range from Laraaji’s signature ambience to Ernest Hood’s visionary ‘Neighbourhoods’, filtered through modern outer sound explorers such as John T. Gast, Mark Lecky, and the bass minimalism of SND.

(Also definitely for fans of Brummy slang, sacred harp singing, Serbian-American choirs, UK news broadcasts, etc (I see you)).

Belfast-based composer André Gough debuts on Perfect Aesthetics with his third full-length album, Vignettes. This album was written without a central concept or narrative in mind. Each track serves the primary purpose of evoking imagery for the listener and/or conveying a certain mood/emotion. The intention is that these tracks hopefully hold some type of cinematic quality for the listener whilst also resonating on a deeper personal level. This body of work is a collection of “Vignettes” as the title states. Tracks which are able to stand alone but also form part of a cohesive whole
