About the mix:

This is my first guest mix in almost two years; life has thrown several curveballs before getting to this point - whether it be issues with my personal health, family, job losses and the general state of the world - I wanted this mix to be the perfect distraction - acting as somewhat of a representation of the indescribable feeling of getting whisked away to a set at the club that's equal parts embracing, engaging, whimsical and wobbly. I would like to believe that one of the unique sensibilities that I bring out during my sets is that I am keen on letting the crowd sit in something ensconced in bass after I warm them up with some uplifting rhythms that get those feet stomping - I think that's how people develop that chronic condition called "bassface". Of course, what better way to achieve that goal for a mix than doing it in one go on my Pioneer XDJ-RX while breaking a pesky fever. After all - if you're not sweating out a fever behind the decks, are you really living?

There's not much to say about these guys, you know their panache, but we will try: One of the most exciting producers of recent years, who can be none other than Aquarian, delivers a long-range missile. A timeless track that is atypical in the Canadian's catalogue but that is for sure at the top of his registers. 


Second track is delivered by Bristol’s Hodge, who has accustomed us to tracks that are played everywhere. This time, he delivered an incessant, percussive and dynamic track, perfectly sequenced that also has one of those melodies that make Jacob's tracks seasonal anthems.

Sheepshead (@sheepshead_, Newtype Rhythms) and I go back to the glory days of music blogging, when the music industry and New York City felt like an entirely different place. Our shared passion for music caused our paths to cross over the years at the random warehouse parties, DlY shows or in the photo pit at gigs and festivals. It’s only natural that his journey evolved into DJing. In this 1 hour mix Sheepshead taps into the nostalgic and current favorites.

'Sup. I've emerged from retirement for a detailed exploration of reggae samples in jungle/D&B :)

A bit like the hip-hop & ‘give me a break’ samples mixes, this one's a laidback affair without any breakbeat/reconstruction stuff, but it covers the gamut of dub, reggae, roots & ragga (with some easter eggs chucked in), so I figured it can be part of the eclectic series. Note that I've taken pains here not to duplicate anything from the previous mixes, so if you get to the end and think (for example) 'where the fuck was Chase The Devil?', hopefully you'll trawl back through the playlist to find it.

In all honesty it was great fun to pull together, and I owe thanks to Matt (aka Rollin) over at Dogs on Acid for planting the idea. To divert briefly, this rekindling of my love for reggae came directly off the back of a mix I recently did for the Dubs On Acid Collective, an amazing charity project with some seriously talented guys. Back to the mix, and time to big up the Rolldabeats sample hunters once again as I shamelessly raided 90% of the tracklist from their forum - Phokus, Haste, DJ Dara, Ornette, The Manipulator, Mikeeee, JJ, Ian S, Dee Jay Budd, Dan Vye, Droid, Logic, Force Is Electric, JVXP, Serum, Mr Sensi, Blah, Caedo261 and probably a bunch of others I’ve forgotten (sorry), plus Jason 0=0 and the jungle beardstrokers over on FB.
