Musica Para Estar Vol.12

Solid Steel in association with Serato (1st May) We continue celebrating the relaunch of the Solid Steel website http://www.solidsteel.net  with the return of Four Tet and an exclusive mix alongside Anthony Naples for a TEXT Records special. Four Tet first appeared on Solid Steel back in 2001 and you can now hear this mix in the Featured section on the website, along with another mix from 2002 (which also featured Bonobo, DJ Food and DK as part of the Solid Steel Tour retrospective.) We also feature a 2001 mix from Koushik, who was the first artist to release an EP on Text Records.

Four Tet is up first digging deep with a vinyl only selection and as with one of his previous shows, there's no track list, but you can see a photo of the the album covers for every record in the background image to his mix at http://www.solidsteel.net
He had this to say about his mix;

"My latest Solid Steel mix uses music from all over the world but most of it chosen because it sounds like it comes from another world. These are all older records and things I have been listening to recently and have discovered on my endless search for music."

Multi-instrumentalist Chris Ward AKA Tropics makes really great music. His magical electronica inspired by the Beach Boys, Rhys, Peter Gabriel and Little Dragon exists somewhere in-between deep sleep and REM, managing to be drowsily lucid all at once. We jumped at the chance to feature Ward's "Groovy, funky, soulful, danceable" Tropical mix, created especially by him for i-D. Says Ward of the mix: "Tropics & Friends is a monthly night myself and Joseph Russell (Early Sounds Collective) started putting on at various venues in London last year. It's a great vibe and I love getting people involved to feature alongside us. The night is kind of an excuse to get all our friends together who live around London and have a good knees up! We have no genre exclusivity, we just play what we're influenced by and believe to be good music. Groovy, funky, soulful, danceable.”

Today for the 43rd mix in our guest mix series we have LA based edit maestro 'Luxxury' weighing in with a slow edits mixtape to soundtrack your sunsets until the summer winds down. There's a very familiar feeling to this mix indeed as Luxxury puts his laid back touch on artists like 'The Doors', 'Paul Simon', 'Tears For Fears', 'Dolly Parton'and the list just goes on. It's a really interesting to hear his approach to revitalising something you already know so well and we think he manages to put his own voice in there.

A mixtape with an hour’s worth of just-slightly-north of 100bpm edits, designed for a sly 3am skinny dip in the rooftop pool at the hotel. Take off your clothes and those of a close friend, lover, or admirer; put on those white bathrobes (which are NOT free for you take home with you, btw); and try and contain your giddy giggles as you take the elevator to the top floor. Do what you need to do to convince the poolside bartender to let you slip this mix on the soundsystem as he leaves you to enjoy a slow, delicious moonlight swim.

I’ve been a fan since the mid-2000s so after consulting with my trusted friend DJ Beatbroker I knew a Rollmottle remix would be a perfect fit for Cruise Control.
